7/12/25 Rockies' draft-and-development philosophy has serious flaws. Here's why. Over the last decade, no team in baseball has been worse at getting impact out of the draft than the Rockies. The Rockies' 12.1 total Wins Above Replacement from the draft since 2015 ranks last, according to Baseball Reference. Colorado has only had two picks in that period accumulate more than 3.0 career bWAR: second baseman Brendan Rodgers (No. 3 overall in 2015) and center fielder Brenton Doyle (2019 fourth-round pick).

6/29/25 Colorado Rockies Pass on Brendan Rodgers for All-Star Slugger in 2015 MLB Redraft. One of the major reasons that the Colorado Rockies are in the position which they are now is because their recent draft picks have not panned out. With that pick, they added middle infielder Brendan Rodgers to their organzation, selecting him out of Lake Mary High School in Lake Mary, Fla. The only players pickeed before him were shortstop Dansby Swanson, who went No. 1 overall to the Arizona Diamondbacks and third baseman Alex Bregman, who was selected No. 2 by the Houston Astros.

6/19/25 Houston Astros Predicted to Stay in Holding Pattern at MLB Trade Deadline. The Houston Astros have once again overcome a slow start to assert their dominance in the American League West. Entering the final two weeks of June, Houston is well-positioned to make a run at the postseason for the ninth consecutive year. With where they are in the standings, it would make sense for the Astros to be buyers ahead of the trade deadline. Second base has been an unproductive position in the lineup with Brendan Rodgers and Mauricio Dubon failing to make much of an impact when Jose Altuve isn't moonlighting back at his old position.

2/19/25 Astros, Former Rockies 2B Brendan Rodgers Agree to Minor League Deal. The Houston Astros and free agent second baseman Brendan Rodgers have agreed to a one-year minor league contract, KPRC 2's Ari Alexander reported Tuesday night. Rodgers picked up an invitation to the Astros' big league training camp in West Palm Beach, Florida, as part of the deal. Had he not been non-tendered by the Colorado Rockies in November, Rodgers would have been arbitration-eligible this winter rather than a free agent. Instead, Rodgers will be fighting for a payday and a spot on the Astros' Opening Day roster over the next five weeks of preseason camp.

1/08/25 Should Yankees Pursue Kiké Hernández to Address Infield Need?. In recent days, the New York Yankees have been linked to Luis Arráez, Brendan Rodgers, Paul DeJong, and Gavin Lux as potential solutions for their infield needs. Lux, of course, was traded to the Cincinnati Reds shortly after those reports emerged. Free-agent super utility man Kiké Hernández has played every position except catcher during his 11-year big-league career.

12/01/24 Former Rockies Cal Quantrill, Brendan Rodgers Named Free Agents Worth Watching. With MLB's non-tender deadline long since passed, the players who got let go have been fully integrated into the free agent pool at large. MLB Trade Rumors compiled two lists of non-tendered players to keep an eye on this winter, one consisting of five position players and the other made up of five pitchers. One Colorado Rockies castoff made each list – second baseman Brendan Rodgers and starting pitcher Cal Quantrill. Colorado jettisoned both players just before the deadline passed on Nov. 22.

11/22/24 Brendan Rodgers, Cal Quantrill non-tendered by Rockies in roster shakeup. The Rockies shook up their roster and continued their youth movement Friday when they non-tendered Gold Glove second baseman Brendan Rodgers and right-handed starter Cal Quantrill. The moves cut the club's payroll for the 2025 season and cleared a path for young prospects, such as second baseman Adael Amador and a crop of young starters who could make their big-league debuts in 2025. Both Rodgers and Quantrill are entering their final year of arbitration, with Rodgers estimated to be in line for a $6 million salary and Quantrill due to make around $9 million. According to major league sources, the Rockies attempted to trade both players but did not find a deal worth making.

11/17/24 Angels Rumors: the Rockies willing to part with 2 players who fit well with LAA. The Angels have a ways to go to fill out their roster, and the Colorado Rockies could be willing to part with players who could immediately help round out the team. ESPN's Jeff Passan reported that the Rockies could entertain offers on INF Brendan Rodgers and RHP Justin Lawrence. The Rockies are spending a lot of money on a team that has less hope for contention than the Angels. Rodgers is in line for a shade under $6 million in his final year of arbitration, so it stands to reason that the Rockies would want to move off that money.
