7/29/25 Game 109: Red Sox at Twins lineups and notes. The Red Sox appeared to be on the verge of taking a three-game winning streak into Tuesday's game with the Twins. Then came the rain , and perhaps for the first time ever, Red Sox fans were lamenting the demise of the Hubert Humphrey Metrodome, the home of the Twins from 1982-2009. The Sox took a 4-3 lead into the bottom of the ninth but had to wait 90 minutes to take the field after the skies opened up. When play finally resumed, the Twins rallied for a 5-4 win against Jordan Hicks, who had tossed 25 pitches the day before, then had two warm-up sessions 90 minutes apart before entering the game. The Sox will look to get back on track when they send Lucas Giolito to the mound. He was knocked

7/29/25 Red Sox' Jordan Hicks, forced to wait 90 minutes through weather delay, put in 'uncomfortable' scenario. For the second time in a week, Jordan Hicks faced a bases-loaded, no-out jam with the game on line Monday night. Inheriting a one-run lead following a 90-minute rain delay that came in the middle of the ninth inning, Hicks faced five hitters and retired only one, as the Minnesota Twins rallied to score twice and steal a 5-4 win from the Red Sox at Target Field. With closer Aroldis Chapman unavailable because of back spasms that forced him from Sunday's game, Hicks, having warmed up in the top of the ninth inning as the Red Sox snapped a 3-3 tie as Roman Anthony punched a single into right field, sprinted from the bullpen to the mound.

7/28/25 Red Sox rain delay: Downpour and threat of lightning halts game in ninth inning. With the Red Sox just three outs away from a potential 4-3 win over the Minnesota Twins, the threat of heavy rain and the potential for lightning forced a delay in the game in the middle of the ninth. The Red Sox had just taken a one-run lead in the top of the inning, but before they could take the field for the bottom of the inning, umpires waved out the grounds crew to unfurl the tarp and protect the field as rain began and heavy winds swirled. The Sox were about to turn to Jordan Hicks to close out their second straight game, but he never got to the mound as the grounds crew raced onto the field.

7/22/25 Phillies Announce Roster Move Ahead Of Clash Vs. Red Sox. The Boston Red Sox are looking to bounce back from their brutal loss to the Philadelphia Phillies when they take the field on Tuesday night. Ahead of the game, the Phillies made a roster move involving one of their veteran relief pitchers. In the bottom of the 10th inning, Jordan Hicks was attempting to escape a bases-loaded jam with no outs. Edmundo Sosa was at the plate, and the Phillies seemed to be in prime position to walk away with a win.

The Boston Red Sox brought in their first piece of the Rafael Devers’ trade two weeks ago when they activated right-handed reliever Jordan Hicks from the 15-day injured list Monday. To make room for him, they optioned right-hander Zack Kelly to Triple-A Worcester. Kelly left Sunday’s 5-3 loss to Toronto with right oblique tightness, but manager Alex Cora said before Monday’s game against Cincinnati that he was fine.

Jordan Hicks saw the Boston Red Sox wanted him as a free agent when they made a push after the 2023 season. Two weeks ago, he was surprised that they were able to get him while he’s still on the injured list when they shipped Rafael Devers off to San Francisco. “I was little bit surprised,” Hicks said Sunday morning, speaking to reporters from the Red Sox dugout before they faced the Toronto Blue Jays.

6/01/25 Giants Beat Against Marlins Despite Awful Outing from Struggling Reliever. The San Francisco Giants extended their streak of not scoring more than four runs in a game to 14 against the Miami Marlins on Sunday. Reliever Jordan Hicks, who hadn't pitched since Monday, came in and was wild and erratic in his shortest outing of the season and nearly allowed the Marlins to creep back into the contest. It was clear Hicks' confidence has grown so low that Melvin may need to make a harsher call than pulling his struggling arm like he did Sunday. During his brief stint as a starting pitcher this season, Hicks struggled mightily and ultimately found himself demoted to the bullpen due to his performance becoming a liability.

5/28/25 San Francisco Giants Manager Bob Melvin Announces Seismic Change to Bullpen Roles. The San Francisco Giants have made some major changes to their bullpen recently, some because of ineffective play and others out of necessity. With Jordan Hicks struggling in some facets as a starter, the Giants decided to move him back to the bullpen, swapping roles with Hayden Birdsong. When Justin Verlander went on the injured list, someone needed to step into his role. San Francisco decided to tab Kyle Harrison, who was promoted when Lou Trivino was designated for assignment, to take his place.

5/27/25 Giants Have Clearly Made Correct Decision Flip Flopping Starter and Reliever. The San Francisco Giants shook things up recently within the pitching staff in a decision that could not have been an easy one. After a difficult start to the season for converted reliever Jordan Hicks and a dominant start for long reliever Hayden Birdsong, the Giants sent Hicks back to the bullpen and brought the young Birdsong into the starting rotation. Birdsong has only made two starts so far, but those outings have shown he has taken another step from last season. On Monday, Birdsong had some bad luck.

The San Francisco Giants are excelling this year, but they haven't been happy with starting pitcher Jordan Hicks. Hicks, previously a reliever, was converted into a starter to begin the 2024 season and excelled, but 2025 hasn't been as kind, as he's gone 1-5 with a 6.60 ERA in 10 starts. As a result, the Giants are making a change concerning Hicks.
