7/26/25 Astros linked to risky trade for Marlins starter. The Houston Astros are still in the lead in the American League West despite their injured list featuring five players from their Opening Day lineup, most notably their slugging designated hitter Yordan Alvarez. According to Dylan Sanders from Houston Astros On SI, the two-time World Series champions could go with a riskier option at solving the problem by picking up RHP Edward Cabrera from the Miami Marlins.

7/23/25 Astros predicted to acquire 23-HR slugger in blockbuster with AL West rival. The Houston Astros are a winning machine, plain and simple. To see the Astros at the top of the American League West standings is no surprise, but it can be startling to see the names on the bottom half of their lineup card on most nights. Houston will get Yordan Alvarez and Jeremy Peña back eventually, but they still lack the thump of Astros championship teams past.

7/21/25 Smoke and Mirrors of Astros Pitching Staff Starting To Get Exposed. It's hard to say there was a more surprising result in the first half of the season than what the Houston Astros accomplished heading into the All-Star break. Already doubted coming into the year based on who they lost in the offseason, an injury to Yordan Alvarez during the early part of the campaign would have been seen as a death sentence, let alone losing more pitchers to injuries. How the Astros have been able to perform this way might be surprising, but it's no secret. Houston is second in batting average and top 10 in wRC+, getting runners constantly on the base paths with the ability to drive them home.

Houston received an encouraging Yordan Alvarez update on Friday, however, via Chandler Rome of The Athletic. “Yordan Alvarez is swinging again,” Rome wrote on X, formerly Twitter, before providing a number of other important Astros updates. “Chas McCormick has been reinstated from the IL and Kenedy Corona was optioned. 7/13/25 Can Astros Overcome One Major Disadvantage They're Facing in MLB Draft?. The Houston Astros have overcome the odds to be atop the American League West with a record of 56-39, six games ahead of the Seattle Mariners. It wasn't a spot many people thought the Astros would be in entering play on July 13 given how much talent and production they lost this past winter and some of the obstacles they have had to overcome during the season. Houston has been bitten hard by the injury bug, missing several key contributors in designated hitter Yordan Alvarez, shortstop Jeremy Pena and center fielder Jake Meyers.

7/11/25 Astros Placing Jake Meyers on Injured List Among Several Roster Moves. The Houston Astros have been ravaged by injuries throughout the 2025 MLB regular season, and they are set to be without another starting player for the foreseeable future. With designated hitter Yordan Alvarez and shortstop Jeremy Pena already sidelined, the team announced on Friday that center fielder Jake Meyers will be joining them on the injured list with what is being called a right calf strain. The starting center fielder had been dealing with a calf issue since Sunday, July 6, but things worsened as the week went on. On Wednesday, Meyers had to leave the field with assistance from an athletic trainer before a pitch was even thrown in the game against the Cleveland Guardians.
