8/02/25 Breaking Down Sneaky Good Addition of Louis Varland for Blue Jays. It has been a fantastic stretch of late for the Toronto Blue Jays, who have established themselves as the team to beat in the American League East. Despite a bit of a sluggish start to the season, the Blue Jays have been playing excellent baseball of late and could very well win their division. At the trade deadline, Toronto had a couple of needs that they were looking to address, and the front office seemingly did a nice job. The most significant splash that they made was the addition of former AL Cy Young award winner Shane Bieber.

8/02/25 Blue Jays Acquire Former Cy Young Winner Just Before Trade Deadline. The Toronto Blue Jays have been the hottest team in baseball during the month of July, tallying a league-best 18 wins. Toronto currently holds a four-game lead over the New York Yankees in the division, and on Thursday, they took full advantage of their final opportunity to upgrade the roster ahead of the trade deadline. The Blue Jays agreed to trade promising right-handed pitching prospect Khal Stephan in exchange for veteran starter and 2020 Cy Young Award winner Shane Bieber, who just completed his fourth rehab start as he works his way back from Tommy John surgery.

8/02/25 Blue Jays Front Office Graded on Recent Trade Decisions During Crucial Stretch. The Toronto Blue Jays made some decent moves as the trade deadline was cut off. When the deadline was done, the Jays had acquired a starting pitcher (hopefully), a pair of relievers, an infielder, and a catcher. At first glance, their biggest move was the acquisition of 2x CY Young winner, Shane Bieber, from the Cleveland Guardians. This could potentially be a huge win for the Blue Jays, but the hiccup is that he hasn't thrown a pitch in the majors since April of last season.

7/31/25 Rebuilding Guardians trade pitchers Shane Bieber and Paul Sewald to contending Blue Jays and Tigers. Pitcher Shane Bieber is headed to the AL East-leading Toronto Blue Jays in a deal with the rebuilding Cleveland Guardians, who also dealt right-hander Paul Sewald in the division to the AL Central-leading Tigers. The Guardians began Thursday's trade deadline day in second place in the AL Central, nine games behind Detroit. They are potentially in the wild-card race, but their moves signal this has become a spiraling season. Cleveland closer Emmanuel Clase, a three-time All-Star, was placed on non-disciplinary paid leave as part of a Major League Baseball investigation into sports betting earlier in the week.

7/30/25 Cubs Predicted to Swing League-Altering Trade for Guardians Standout. Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter is predicting the Guardians to send pitcher Shane Bieber packing before Thursday's deadline, and he has the Cubs prying the former Cy Young award winner away from Cleveland. 7/30/25 Guardians' Shane Bieber Gets Huge Update Before Trade Deadline. Over the last two days, the Cleveland Guardians have gone from possible buyers at the trade deadline to likely sellers, and this includes some of the team's most prominent names being in trade rumors. One of those possible trade candidates is two-time All-Star and three-time Gold Glove-winner Shane Bieber. MLB insider Jeff Passan made an appearance on ESPN Cleveland on Wednesday morning, gave an update about Bieber's availability before Thursday's deadline, and it certainly sounds like he's pitched his last game in a Guardians uniform. “Over the last 48 hours, I've heard a lot more from teams that Steven Kwan is a real possibility to get traded before the deadline, that Shane Bieber is almost certain to go before the deadline,” said Passan.

7/29/25 MLB rumors: Jeff Passan suggests Cubs-Guardians Shane Bieber blockbuster trade. Shane Bieber has spent his entire big league career with the Cleveland Guardians. The two-time All-Star and 2020 American League Cy Young winner is coming off Tommy John surgery and has yet to pitch in 2025. A number of deals were mentioned, as Passan explained his reasoning behind the Guardians-Cubs Bieber trade idea. “Chicago needs to land at least one starting pitcher at this deadline, and the former AL Cy Young winner is very available,” Passan wrote.

7/28/25 Red Sox Targeting Cy Young Winner? Insider Says Keep An Eye Out. Could the Boston Red Sox add a former Cy Young Award winner in the coming days? Recently, there's been plenty of buzz about the possibility of the Red Sox adding another high-end starting pitcher into the mix. It seems like this team is one pitcher away from truly contending in a wide open American League. 7/23/25 REPORT: Guardians Listening To Trade Offers for Star Pitcher. The Cleveland Guardians have some interesting trade chips leading up to the deadline. One player who could be on that move that hasn't received much attention so far is Shane Bieber. "Bieber's $16 million player option for next year is an impediment, certainly, but if his stuff is good enough, high-payroll teams could see him as a risk worth taking," wrote Passan. Bieber hasn't pitched in a big league game since April of 2024 and is still rehabbing from Tommy John surgery.

7/21/25 Guardians Provide Exciting Injury Update On Shane Bieber. A lot of attention surrounding the Cleveland Guardians over the last few weeks has been focused on the trade deadline and the potential moves the front office could make. The team announced on Monday that Shane Bieber will make a rehab start for the Lake County Captains (High-A) on Tuesday, July 22. The plan is for Bieber to throw around 30-40 pitches, which should put him at about two to three innings of work. 7/10/25 Cleveland Guardians' Top Pitcher Receives Bleak Outlook. Cleveland Guardians pitcher Shane Bieber appears to be moving closer toward a return, but that's what everyone thought a month ago before he had a setback. Bieber is making his way back from Tommy John surgery, and the Guardians' starting rotation obviously needs the right-hander back in the fold. Jack O'Rourke of The BIG Factor isn't so sure and expressed some very serious concerns about Bieber during a recent episode.

7/07/25 Why the Cleveland Guardians should go after this former NL Cy Young Award winner. Let's face it: the Cleveland Guardians need an ace. They haven't really had one since Shane Bieber went through his dominant spiel in the second half of the 2019 season and the entirety of the COVID-plagued 2020 and up until he had Tommy John surgery last year, causing him to miss the entirety of the 2024 season and the 2025 season up to this point. And even then, he wasn't the bonafide strongarm that Corey Kluber was, but both of them still brought Cy Young Awards to Cleveland and the Guardians need someone that can continue that trend in a durable and dominant fashion. And that someone might be just like Bieber, a Cy Young winner recently put on the shelf thanks to Tommy John surgery. That
