7/31/25 Astros Could Find Reliable Rotation Answer by Trading for Merrill Kelly. The Houston Astros have a few top starters in their rotation in both Framber Valdez and Hunter Brown, but they are looking for some depth as their consistency quickly falls after these two. Kiley McDaniel and Jeff Passan of ESPN continually update their Top 50 candidates for the trade deadline, which is Thursday. Merrill Kelly, who pitches for the Arizona Diamondbacks, was ranked 10th on the list, but the fourth-highest ranked starting pitcher.

7/30/25 Former MLB Exec Reveals Astros' Stance on Cardinals Star Nolan Arenado. The Houston Astros' plans ahead of the MLB trade deadline are clear: they want to add a left-handed bat -- preferably an infielder -- and a starting pitcher who can slide in behind Framber Valdez and Hunter Brown to start postseason games. Ideally, the batter they acquire would be able to play third base, where the injury to Isaac Paredes has created a massive void. An All-Star for the second consecutive year, he has filled in admirably for Alex Bregman, who departed in free agency and signed a deal with the Boston Red Sox.

7/29/25 Astros hunt for missing offense, home victory against Nationals. July 29 - Perhaps the greatest display of evidence showcasing the Houston Astros' offensive struggles came Monday in the opener of a three-game home interleague series against the Washington Nationals. Four Houston pitchers -- starter Framber Valdez and relievers Bryan King, Bryan Abreu and Josh Hader -- combined for 19 strikeouts. However, the Astros managed only four hits in a 2-1 loss to the Nationals, their sixth consecutive home loss and fifth straight defeat overall. Houston has just one win in its past 11 home games and has only eight runs during its current skid, including one run in each of the last three games. "Teams go through scuffles like this during the season," Astros manager

7/25/25 Astros GM Dana Brown Says Team Is Prioritizing Offense at Trade Deadline. All season long, the narrative has been about the injuries in the pitching staff behind ace duo Framber Valdez and Hunter Brown. As a result, it seems the focus is going to be on the offense at the trade deadline with the entire left side of the infield -- Jeremy Peña and Isaac Paredes -- on the shelf.

7/22/25 Valdez stretches winning streak to 10, Astros rally to beat Diamondbacks 3-1. Framber Valdez pitched seven effective innings for his 10th straight win, Brice Matthews hit his third homer in two games and the Houston Astros rallied to beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-1 on Tuesday night. Valdez (11-4) allowed a run and seven hits to match Detroit's Tarik Skubal for the majors' longest win streak this season. Matthews hit his first two big league homers in Houston's 6-3 win Monday night and launched a two-run shot off Jake Woodford (0-1) in the eighth. Jose Altuve scored on a wild pitch to put Houston up 3-1 in the ninth.

7/12/25 What Astros Trade Package for Diamondbacks Pitcher Zac Gallen Could Look Like. The Houston Astros are in a great spot heading into their final series ahead of the MLB All-Star Game. With a record of 55-39, they are sitting atop the American League West, six games ahead of the Seattle Mariners. If they want to continue building upon that lead and remain one of the true World Series contenders in baseball, they know they have to make some additions ahead of the trade deadline at the end of the month. The most pressing need for the Astros right now is to add some starting pitching depth behind their star-studded one-two punch of Framber Valdez and Hunter Brown.

7/11/25 Astros trade idea lands $30 million former All-Star from Royals. The Houston Astros have defied their preseason expectations and once again remain a force in the American League. To make matters worse, Framber Valdez is a free agent at the end of the year, and chances of him returning in 2026 appear to be slim. Tim Kelly of Bleacher Report proposed the idea of Houston giving the Kansas City Royals a call about right-hander Seth Lugo.

7/09/25 What Would It Cost Astros To Acquire Brandon Lowe From Rays Ahead of Trade Deadline?. The Houston Astros are in a familiar spot heading into the All-Star break of the 2025 MLB regular season: atop the American League West. It isn't a place many expected the Astros to be after how much talent the team lost in the offseason combined with yet another slow start to their campaign. Houston has a dominant one-two punch leading the rotation with Framber Valdez and Hunter Brown. The bullpen is excellent, anchored by closer Josh Hader, with Bryan Abreu, Steven Okert, Bryan King and Bennet Sousa ahead of him.

7/08/25 MLB insider names Astros ace among notable snubs from 2025 MLB All-Star game. Despite tallying a 10-4 record, a 2.90 ERA, and 115 strikeouts in as many innings, Houston Astros Framber Valdez didn't make the cut for the 2025 MLB All-Star Game in Atlanta. During that weekend Dodgers series, the Astros will send Valdez out on the mound on Saturday, July 5th.

6/27/25 MACK: MY Friday Observations Onix Vega, Rental Arms, Wehiwa Aloy, Infield Help,. If there is a rental ace that contending teams should be eyeing at this year's trade deadline, it is Framber Valdez. Now there is no guarantee that Valdez will even be on the market, but if the Astros decide to put him on the table, they could receive a haul. Valdez has been one of the most effective starting pitchers in all of baseball, as he has pitched to a sub-3.50 ERA in every season since the 2021 campaign, all while making almost every start.

6/24/25 Framber Valdez and three other Astros predicted to make 2025 All-Star team. The Houston Astros have the best record in the American League West. With a strong roster, there are plenty of deserving candidates for the 2025 All-Star team. Chandler Rome of The Athletic, who covers the Astros, predicted four players he expects to make the All-Star team in 2025. "I think the Astros will have four All-Stars," Rome writes.

6/20/25 Houston Astros Pitching Shockingly Emerges as Top-5 MLB Unit This Season. The Houston Astros offense has certainly turned a corner as of late and started contributing to a lot of winning, but it's really the pitching staff that has led to this team changing courses. Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller recently updated their pitching staff power rankings for across the league and the Astros skyrocketed up to No. 3 on the list after being No. 7 last month. The starting rotation was expected to be led by Framber Valdez this year, but it has been Hunter Brown that has become one of the hottest names in the sport.
