7/26/25 | Insider Says Nationals' Veteran Infielder 'Makes Sense' for Yankees. The Washington Nationals could be very busy before July 31. The usual suspects of Kyle Finnegan, Nathaniel Lowe, Josh Bell and Michael Soroka are considered to be the team's best trade chips, but perhaps their veteran infielder Amed Rosario could also net them a nice return. Jon Heyman of The New York Post said Rosario "makes sense" for the New York Yankees since they are in need of a right-hitting utility man. What looked like a promising season for the Washington Nationals went south in a hurry during June and July, and now the team is back in a familiar position of selling at the deadline. While players like Michael Soroka, Kyle Finnegan and Nathaniel Lowe are sure to generate some interest, the Nationals have a decision to make on ace pitcher MacKenzie Gore. While it seems doubtful that Washington would move its only high-level pitcher for future assets, ESPN MLB insider Jeff Passan thinks it's at least a possibility, and he has a specific destination in mind. As the deadline has snuck up, the two clear needs the Cubs are expected to try to add are starting pitching and third base. According to an article from both Patrick Mooney and Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic (subscription required), the Cubs are checking in on Washington Nationals All-Star closer Kyle Finnegan. As a strong right-handed reliever, almost any contender could use him. Bell and Lowe are just first base/DH guys at this point in their career. Bell has the benefit of being a switch-hitter. Offseason signings like Josh Bell, Kyle Finnegan and Amed Rosario are sure to be hot commodities in just a few weeks. Left-handed relievers are going to go at a premium this year, so the Nationals should have no issue trading him away. One team that makes perfect sense as a trade partner is the New York Mets. 7/11/25 | Nationals' Kyle Finnegan Shockingly Not Found on Newest MLB Trade Deadline Big Board. If MLB fans and analysts alike were polled on which Washington Nationals player has the most value right now and is the likeliest to be traded, many people would select closer Kyle Finnegan. Finnegan isn't going to blow away opponents, striking out only 26 batters in 33.1 innings, but remains a reliable arm at the end of games with 18 saves thus far in 2025. Alas, Finnegan isn't the only pitcher Washington has who could be of value to other teams around the league. One name to keep an eye on is starting pitcher Michael Soroka, who has cracked the MLB trade deadline Big Board 2.0 put together over at The Athletic by Tim Britton, Aaron Gleeman and Chad Jennings. 7/05/25 | Nationals trade talks include 3 players who can help contending teams. This looked like it might be the year the Washington Nationals turn things around. MLB Trade Rumors lists three players as top trade candidates for the Nats: Michael Soroka, Kyle Finnegan and Nathaniel Lowe. Soroka's reasoning from MLBTR goes like this: "Soroka signed a one-year, $9MM free agent contract to work out of Washington's rotation. He missed a month early in the season with a biceps strain but has been healthy since the second week of May. A 4.70 ERA through 59 2/3 innings isn't eye-opening, but he's striking Source: https://www.sportingnews.com/ca/mlb/washington-nat... |

6/30/25 | Kyle Finnegan Gives His Thoughts on Struggles of Young Nationals Relievers. Armed with a roster that has plenty of rising stars, the Nationals have done enough early in games to put themselves in positions to win. 6/28/25 | Important Nationals Reliever Has Setback, Shut Down for Few Days. The Washington Nationals have had bullpen troubles all year long. Entering Saturday with a unit that owns the second-worst ERA in all of Major League Baseball (5.74), their relief staff is one of the biggest reasons why the Nationals are 14 games under .500. Following the trade deadline, things could get worse on paper since the expectation is Kyle Finnegan is going to get moved, something that would hurt Washington's chances of closing out games. The hope was by the time their veteran closer gets dealt they would get back another key part of their bullpen, with Derek Law returning from the right forearm inflammation that has kept him on the injured list since the start of this campaign.
