8/01/25 | As Caleb Williams rides the roller coaster of Chicago Bears camp, Ben Johnson aims to push the right buttons. What appeared to be a designed pass into the right flat to running back D'Andre Swift required some troubleshooting Thursday morning, some artistry to salvage the play. Thus Williams did what he often does so well. One-on-one against cornerback Kyler Gordon, wide receiver Olamide Zaccheaus created separation and ran under the pass. 7/25/25 | Can Bears' D'Andre Swift be the running back new coach Ben Johnson needs?. When the Bears picked up running back D'Andre Swift in the first half-hour of free agency last year, there was an immediate thought that he could be their most explosive playmaker. For all of wide receiver DJ Moore's credentials and quarterback Caleb Williams' potential, Swift was a great candidate to be the focal point of the offense. Playing under an inept offensive coordinator in Shane Waldron and behind a shaky offensive line, Swift dipped to a career-low 3.8 yards per carry, while the Bears finished in the bottom quarter of the NFL in rushing and tumbled to 5-12. 7/24/25 | Chicago Bears training camp update: D'Andre Swift looking for more efficiency in second year. D'Andre Swift's first season with the Bears didn't go exactly the way he wanted last year. Swift rushed for some of the better statistics in his career after he signed a three-year $24.5 million contract with the team in 2024. “I don't think I produced enough to contribute to more wins, obviously,” Swift told reporters Thursday after the second practice of training camp at Halas Hall in Lake Forest. There was good and bad in Swift's first year with the Bears. Source: https://www.shawlocal.com/bears/2025/07/24/chicago... |

7/01/25 | A case of right position and wrong Bears pick in ESPN mock draft. The Bears got their man in the one-round mock draft ESPN posted from draft analyst Matt Miller, as they took Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love 18th overall. The need for an every down back more physical than D'Andre Swift could be a priority for the Bears by the time they draft again next year and Love is rated by Pro Football Focus, ESPN and many others as best in this draft. The better and more likely back for the Bears in the 2026 draft, though, is not Love. Source: https://www.si.com/nfl/bears/a-case-of-right-posit... |
6/28/25 | What Bears can gain by waiting or by trading for a running back. Most of the whining about an unaddressed need at running back for the Bears focuses on how they need a better main ball carrier than D'Andre Swift to execute Ben Johnson's offense. It wouldn't hurt having the experienced depth, however, considering Roschon Johnson has 136 carries in two seasons, Travis Homer 89 in six seasons and no other back has carried the ball in the NFL. This is why the name of Jamaal Williams comes up so often for the Bears. Source: https://www.si.com/nfl/bears/what-bears-can-gain-b... |
6/11/25 | Why Chicago Bears backfield situation looks more cemented than ever. Without even actually moving, Bears running back D'Andre Swift continued to run toward the goal line like a broken-field runner dodging tacklers. The signing by Denver of Chargers free agent running back J.K. Dobbins probably removes the last real starting quality back from the group of remaining free agents. The best remaining unsigned backs are probably Cam Akers and Jamaal Williams. Williams is 30 years old while Akers has averaged only 100 carries a year in the NFL over five seasons is in New Orleans this week as a minicamp participant on a tryout basis. 6/09/25 | How a reunion with Ben Johnson could benefit Chicago Bears' D'Andre Swift. Bears running back D'Andre Swift didn't mince words when he reflected on his first season with the team last year. “A lot of stuff didn't end how I wanted to, selfishly for me, how I played,” Swift said at last week's mandatory minicamp. Swift's assessment was fair after the Bears struggled to gain much consistent rushing productivity last season. Swift himself failed to find consistency in his first season after the Bears signed him to a three-year contract in the offseason. Source: https://www.shawlocal.com/bears/2025/06/09/how-a-r... |

6/04/25 | Top NFL analysts predict this disappointing Chicago Bear will have a stunning breakout in 2025. D'Andre Swift had himself a lousy 2024. In Chicago Sports Stuff's latest fantasy football roundtable, David Bearman from Pro Football Network and Ian Hartitz and Nando Di Fino from Matthew Berry's Fantasy Life are confident the back will improve on his disappointing 2024—and by a bunch. 4/19/25 | Bears trade idea lands 16-TD RB to boost Caleb Williams. D'Andre Swift is coming off the worst season of his NFL career. The Chicago Bears running back averaged 3.8 yards per carry in 2024. In his stead, Xie writes the Bears should try to trade for Bills star James Cook. Cook is pretty much the only Bills star eligible for an extension this offseason who hasn't gotten one. 4/09/25 | Explaining Bears' apparent lack of interest in Omarion Hampton. The biggest lineup hole facing the Bears heading into this draft revolves around the running back position. There is immediacy in this need unless they really do think D'Andre Swift can break more tackles than he has shown. The Bears have looked at a speed back, though, as Brashard Smith from SMU came to Halas Hall. It's rather obvious top back Ashton Jeanty won't make it to No. 10. 3/29/25 | Addressing biggest Bears draft need can end shameful GM neglect. The Bears will end March and hit the April draft runway still with two pressing needs. The first and most obvious place to look is running back but D'Andre Swift is an NFL veteran starter, highly paid and very versatile. Of course, as stated, getting another one would benefit them greatly and enhance Ben Johnson's play-calling ability. Source: https://www.si.com/nfl/bears/addressing-biggest-be... |
3/27/25 | Rating exact draft fits for Chicago Bears at running back and why. Only one team is going to pull in Ashton Jeanty in the NFL draft and the jury remains out on how far up the ladder North Carolina running back Omarion Hampton might come off the board. For the Bears, specific need ranks right up with a candidate's talent level when they consider a player to put into a backfield mix with D'Andre Swift and Roschon Johnson. A back used to playing behind multiple blocking schemes helps, and so does one with multiple skill sets, based on what Ben Johnson asked of David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs. 3/11/25 | Major milestone Chicago Bears reached with their trades and signings. The free agency and trade maneuvers by Bears GM Ryan Poles have probably made it easier on the team for the draft as he can select the highest rated player and not for a particular need. With every single starting position covered now by an experienced, quality NFL player after the initial rush of free ageny, there is no need for a rookie to come in and start immediately. This is a critical juncture for an NFL team. D'Andre Swift has been and is an NFL starting quality running back, although they could use a power back to start. 3/02/25 | NFL Draft expert urges Chicago Bears to select hard-charging running back on Day 2. There's even been some talk of taking a running back like Boise State's Ashton Jeanty in Round 1, although that seems like a longshot. What isn't a longshot, however, is the likelihood of the Bears selecting a running back at some point before the end of Day 2. Veteran starter D'Andre Swift got a partial vote of confidence from coach Ben Johnson during the 2025 NFL Combine, but the depth chart behind last year's prized free-agent signing remains thin.
