8/01/25 | Kansas City Royals Rotation without Kris Bubic. The Kansas City Royals suffered an extreme blow to their hopes and dreams this season. Earlier this week, it was revealed that former Stanford standout, Kris Bubic, would miss the rest of the 2025 season with a rotator cuff strain-- ending the promising season from the rising star. An All-Star for the first time this season, Bubic finishes the year with an 8-7 record, a 2.55 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP with 116 strikeouts. The leader of the starting rotation for the entire season, the team will now need to figure out how to get through the season without their ace and will look to establish a core group of guys that they can rely on down the stretch. 7/29/25 | Cardinals-Royals Trade Idea Ships Intriguing 30-Year-Old Journeyman To KC. Suddenly, the Kansas City Royals need more pitching. Kris Bubic's season-ending rotator cuff strain is a brutal blow at a time when the Royals are trying to get back in the playoff race. Thank goodness the Royals didn't trade Seth Lugo, but they still have a 45-year-old Rich Hill in their rotation for the foreseeable future. It's hard to justify trading for a big-league starter given the Royals' positioning in the standings and the fact that they just extended Lugo. They snapped a skid of 11 straight losses at home with a win over the Los Angeles Dodgers, but still are 39-44 on the year and in fourth place in the American League Central. One of the biggest bright spots of the year has been left-hander Kris Bubic, who was moved back to the rotation after Brady Singer was traded. The 27-year-old is 6-5 with a 2.18 ERA and 3.1 WAR in 15 starts. However, Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report proposed a wild trade idea that would send Bubic to the Boston Red Sox in exchange for outfielder Wilyer Abreu. 6/27/25 | Royals Could Cut Ties With Likely All-Star Pitcher, Suggests MLB Insider. The Kansas City Royals' five-game losing streak is putting a huge damper on any plans of buying at the trade deadline. All season, the Royals have struggled to generate any offense, and being shut out by the Tampa Bay Rays on both Wednesday and Thursday has to be considered the low point. According to one insider, the best solution may be to trade the team's most likely All-Star pitcher for a big bat. On Thursday, MLB Network insider Jon Morosi suggested that there was at least an outside chance the Royals would trade lefty starter Kris Bubic during his breakout season, especially if they could get two promising young bats in the return.
