8/01/25 Red Sox 'Closely Monitoring' Marlins' Sandy Alcantara as Trade Deadline Looms. The Boston Red Sox's primary need at the trade deadline is another starting pitcher. Ace Garrett Crochet is in the thick of AL Cy Young contention, but to spare his arm, the team pushed back his next start to Monday. Whether that is due to Boston believing a trade acquisition will take his place in the rotation remains to be seen, but the club has been active in its pursuit of a playoff-caliber arm.

7/31/25 Red Sox's Garrett Crochet Receives Huge Praise From AL Ace. Garrett Crochet is earning respect from his peers during a dominant season. In just his second year as a starting pitcher, Crochet has posted a 2.23 ERA and MLB-leading 175 strikeouts atop the Boston Red Sox rotation. Boston also avoided rumored trade target Joe Ryan and Pablo López, who remains sidelined with a shoulder injury.

7/30/25 Red Sox push back ace Garrett Crochet's next start to next week. “I kind of knew throughout the season that we'd try to find extra rest for me when we could,” said Crochet, who leads the majors with 141? innings. Crochet described this as “a good time to catch my breath a little bit” because of the team's day off Thursday. Cora said: “This is something we've been talking about for a while here, kind of give him a breather.” The Red Sox have not named a fill-in starter.

7/28/25 Why Garrett Crochet hung out with Twins' Joe Ryan at the All-Star Game. About the All-Star break: As the game's best gathered in Atlanta, Ryan hung around a bunch with Red Sox ace Garrett Crochet, a seemingly random pairing made more interesting by the subtext that Ryan, if traded, would be a great match for the Sox. Turns out, they already knew each other a bit, having met during spring training via Griffin Jax, a Twins reliever (and another potential trade subject). In addition to being teammates with Ryan, Jax is “a good buddy of mine,” Crochet said.

7/27/25 Boston Red Sox Ace Continues to Make History in Win Over Los Angeles Dodgers. The Boston Red Sox have had a very simple recipe for success over the past month – send Garrett Crochet out on the mound. Crochet gave up solo home runs to two of the first three Los Angeles Dodgers batters he faced, only to settle in and shut down from then on out. Boston, meanwhile, scored four runs against the most dominant lefty of the last 15 years, Clayton Kershaw. The future hall of famer was no match for Crochet, as the Red Sox went on to win 4-2.

7/26/25 Red Sox Predicted to Complete Intriguing Trade for Nationals' Ace to Solidify Rotation. One team that could use an influx of young and consistent starting pitching is the Boston Red Sox. While ace Garrett Crochet continues to be worth every penny and Lucas Giolito and Brayan Bello have emerged as key arms in the last month, the team lacks any consistency at the backend of the rotation. A slew of injuries ended Kutter Crawford and Hunter Dobbins’ seasons, and the same may be the case for Tanner Houck after suffering another setback.

7/25/25 Will Red Sox make blockbuster trade for $77 million pitcher?. With the Boston Red Sox holding the final Wild Card playoff spot right now, they are likely going to be buyers at the trade deadline. Boston has a 55-49 record, and the main area of need is pitching. Boston has a bona fide No. 1 ace in Garrett Crochet, but could use more high-end starters. Bleacher Report's Zachary Rymer played trade deadline matchmaker, listing the Red Sox as the best fit to trade for the Pittsburgh Pirates' starting pitcher Mitch Keller.

7/24/25 MLB trade deadline dominoes for 10 biggest names on 2025 market. Garrett Crochet -- ended up not getting traded until the offseason. Using ESPN MLB insider Jeff Passan's trade deadline preview as a guide, let's conduct a little exercise: take 10 of the biggest names who could move and see how the dominoes might fall. 7/23/25 Red Sox rumors: Could Boston pull off a Garrett Crochet-like trade?. With the Boston Red Sox preparing for the trade deadline, there are people in the baseball world wondering who the team can add to further improve their roster. While the rumors will continue to surround the Red Sox, some fans could theorize if the team will once again make a trade, likened to that of pitcher Garrett Crochet. Boston traded for Crochet in December of last year and has been a standout this season, recording an 11-4 record to go along with a 2.19 ERA (third in MLB) and 165 strikeouts (first in MLB). In Jeff Passan's latest column for ESPN, he would theorize about the team going after Minnesota Twins pitcher Joe Ryan.

7/21/25 MLB Network Ranks Red Sox Rookie Among Position's Top-10 Players. This spring, not even the Boston Red Sox likely envisioned this breakout star standing among his position's top performers. The Red Sox made several major splashes when acquiring Garrett Crochet, Alex Bregman and Aroldis Chapman, but plucking Narváez from the New York Yankees may go down as their savviest move. The rookie catcher has put his name on the map by batting .269/.342/.435 with stellar defense behind the plate.

7/19/25 Jeff Passan might've just revealed the Red Sox will be major buyers at trade deadline. Garrett Crochet has been everything they could've asked for and more, Brayan Bello and Lucas Giolito are rising to the occasion, Roman Anthony has fit in perfectly, Masataka Yoshida is back, and Romy Gonzalez and Ceddanne Rafaela have played like MVPs in the last month. Boston carried a 10-game winning streak into the All-Star break, and personalities around baseball are all-in on it to make the postseason.

7/18/25 Garrett Crochet Takes Historic Strikeout Rate into Second Half For Boston Red Sox. Acquired this past offseason in a mega deal with the Chicago White Sox, Garrett Crochet has been exactly the ace that the Boston Red Sox have needed for years. An All-Star again this season, Crochet has gone 10-4 with a 2.23 ERA. With the second half of the season beginning on Friday, the Red Sox are sitting in the second wild card position in the American League, and they are just 3.0 games back of the Toronto Blue Jays in the American League East.

7/18/25 Fans are excited about the streaking Sox. But should they be?. Who have been mired in mediocrity (or worse) almost every season since they last won it all in 2018, who declared this a win-now season but traded their best hitter in June, who have been in similar situations in recent Julys but petered out shortly thereafter? Only the results on the field over the next 10 weeks and 64 games will decide the fate of the 2025 Red Sox, but at this juncture, as they return from the All-Star break to take on the Cubs Friday afternoon, they are better positioned than they have been at any time this decade. The talk of Sox camp was newly acquired stars Garrett Crochet and Alex Bregman, plus the youth movement, especially the Big Three of Roman Anthony, Marcelo Mayer, and Kristian Campbell.
