7/30/25 Yu Darvish stifles Mets in Padres' shutout victory. Gavin Sheets belted a two-run homer and Yu Darvish hurled seven scoreless innings as the San Diego Padres completed a three-game sweep of the visiting New York Mets with a 5-0 shutout on Wednesday afternoon. Darvish (1-3), who entered the day with a 9.18 ERA in his first four starts after coming off the injured list July 7 following elbow issues, permitted only two hits and walked none while whiffing seven. Jason Adam and Robert Suarez completed San Diego's 15th shutout, the most in MLB this year. Mark Vientos lined a single up the middle in the first for New York before Darvish mowed down the next 13 hitters.

7/18/25 Padres Activate Gavin Sheets, Option Catcher Ahead of Friday's Game vs. Nationals. The San Diego Padres made a roster move ahead of their return from the All-Star break Friday, reinstating Gavin Sheets from the Paternity List while optioning catcher Luis Campusano to Triple-A El Paso. The Padres moved Sheets to the Paternity List Sunday ahead of their final game before the All-Star break, and brought up Campusano to replace him for the game.

7/18/25 Padres Notes: Friars Make Roster Move, Want All-Star Outfielder, Top Trade Target Won't Cost Much. The San Diego Padres reversed a move they made just before the All-Star break, reinstating Gavin Sheets from the paternity list and sending catcher Luis Campusano back down to Triple-A. Gavin Sheets and his wife, Kahla, welcomed their first child on Monday. Campusano played the Friars' final game before the All-Star break, striking out twice in an 0-for-3 showing. In other news, the Padres are still looking to fill the hole they have in left field, and Chicago White Sox outfielder Luis Robert Jr.'s name has been one which has repeatedly shown up. Robert, an All-Star in 2023, has had a down year in 2025, and the White Sox will likely ship him out as they are in full rebuild mode, per Ken Rosenthal

7/15/25 Padres' Gavin Sheets Makes Massive Announcement. The Padres could have used Gavin Sheeets in their lineup Sunday. At least Sheets had a good excuse for missing the game: He was on paternity leave. Sheets kicked off the All-Star break in enviable fashion Monday, when he posted a picture of his newborn daughter to his Instagram account. "Rhylen Taylor Sheets has arrived!" the announcement read.

7/14/25 Padres Notes: Friars Make Roster Move, Blockbuster Trade Proposal, Padres All-Star Almost Retired. The San Diego Padres lost to the Philadelphia Phillies, 2-1, on Sunday, and fell to 52-44 as the first half of the season comes to a close. To start off Sunday, the Friars made a roster move, calling up a catcher while placing Gavin Sheets on the paternity list. There were previous inclinations from a key insider that the catcher would be called up from Triple-A; it was just a question of whether it would be before or after the All-Star Break. Additionally, the Padres have a blockbuster trade proposal that would add an outfielder with a cannon of an arm to the roster.

7/13/25 Padres place Gavin Sheets on paternity list, call up Luis Campusano. The San Diego Padres placed outfielder/designated hitter Gavin Sheets on the paternity list prior to Sunday's home game against the Philadelphia Phillies. San Diego recalled catcher Luis Campusano from Triple-A El Paso in a corresponding move. Campusano is batting seventh and serving as the designated hitter against the Phillies. Sheets can miss up to three games while on the paternity list. He'll likely just miss Sunday's game with the All-Star break beginning Monday. Sheets, 29, has been a surprise strong contributor after the Padres signed him as a free agent shortly before the start of spring training. He has 14 homers and 50 RBIs in 92 games with his career bests being 15 and 53, respectively,

7/01/25 Padres Coach Calls Surprise Player 'Above-Average' Defender. The San Diego Padres have been rumored to go after securing more outfield depth at the trade deadline, but a player who started the season on a minor league contract is now proving to give the Friars more options as to where they can add another hot right-handed bat. Gavin Sheets has emerged as more than simply a power hitter stashed away at the designated hitter spot, but is proving himself more each day in left field — a position with one of the largest question marks surrounding it in San Diego. Sheets has 11 starts at first base, 24 at left field, and 41 starts as designated hitter.

6/29/25 Padres' Gavin Sheets looks for encore after game-winning HR vs. Reds. Gavin Sheets is having a career year for the San Diego Padres. The two teams will meet again Sunday afternoon in Cincinnati to conclude a three-game series. "That was fun," Sheets said after the game Saturday. Sheets made his debut in 2021 with the Chicago White Sox, who didn't offer him a contract following the 2024 season.

6/28/25 Gavin Sheets blast lifts Padres past Reds. Gavin Sheets hit a three-run home run and two doubles to lead the visiting San Diego Padres to a 6-4 win over the Cincinnati Reds Saturday. The Padres trailed 4-3 in the seventh when reliever Lyon Richardson ran into trouble. Jackson Merrill led off with a double and Xander Bogaerts walked with one out. Sheets then deposited his 13th home run into the right field bleachers to give the Padres, who have now won five of their last seven, the lead.

6/06/25 Padres Named Among Biggest Winners of Offseason, Further Proving AJ Preller's Greatness. The San Diego Padres, through a series of shrewd offseason moves, are once again looking like title contenders, much to the credit of president of baseball operations A.J. Preller. Preller made the brilliant move to give Gavin Sheets a chance after he was released from the Chicago White Sox, a move that has paid off in spades, as Sheets has been a solid hitter, meaningfully out-performing his minor league deal that he signed over the winter. Also during the winter, Preller added pitcher Nick Pivetta, who has been one of the best signings so far providing key depth and a rock-solid arm that has helped the team navigate injuries to its rotation.

6/03/25 Padres' Gavin Sheets Breaks Silence on Injury After Scary Collision. Gavin Sheets attempted to steal Pittsburgh Pirates' second baseman Adam Frazier's home run at Petco Park on Sunday. Keeping his eye on the ball heading over the left field wall, Sheets slammed into the wall, collapsing from the impact. “With Frazier up, I was playing in,” Sheets said. Fortunately, Sheets was able to walk off the field under his own power.

6/03/25 Giants' Jung Hoo Lee makes slide of the year to avoid Padres tag. San Francisco Giants outfielder Jung Hoo Lee made headlines by pulling off the slide of the year to avoid a tag during their tense duel with the San Diego Padres at Oracle Park. Lee's dazzling baserunning moment lit up the home crowd, but the Giants ultimately came up short, falling 1–0 in the tenth inning. The Padres, despite being undermanned after losing Gavin Sheets to injury , scraped together the game's only run in extras to secure the win. In the sixth inning, Lee singled sharply to left and attempted to steal second. Initially called out, the Giants challenged the play. Replay revealed Lee's brilliant swim move dodging the tag , earning him his sixth stolen base of the season. What a
