7/10/25 | Astros Slugger Gives Less Than Encouraging Response When Asked About Injury. The Houston Astros have been playing like the best team in baseball over the past several weeks, which has made it easy for many to overlook the troubling injury problem they have been enduring all season long. It seems like the Astros are having to scratch one name off the lineup card every other game, and this troubling trend cropped up once again on Wednesday night prior to their matchup against the Cleveland Guardians. This time around, it was breakout centerfielder Jake Meyers, who was scratched from the game after he appeared to suffer a left calf injury during pre-game warmups. What makes this latest blow all the more troubling is the fact that Meyers missed the team's last two games because he strained the very same calf during Houston's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers this past Sunday. Breakout star outfielder Jake Meyers left the game early and was replaced by Taylor Trammell after taking just two at-bats. Astros manager Joe Espada described his issue as "right calf soreness" after the game per Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle. Source: https://www.si.com/mlb/astros/news/houston-astros-... |

The Houston Astros have solid control of the American League West, five games ahead of the Seattle Mariners entering Sunday's action. 6/15/25 | Astros Power-Throwing Pitching Prospect Could Be Seen in Majors Very Soon. The Houston Astros have leaned on their offense to not just stay afloat, but thrive in the top spot in the American League West as their pitching staff continues to deal with injuries, both lingering from last season and new from this one. Guys like Jeremy Peña, Jake Meyers, and Isaac Paredes are contributing on offense all season when the team has needed it the most, and the team will be in good shape when Yordan Alvarez gets back from injury. Hayden Wesneski and Ronel Blanco have both gotten Tommy John surgery in the past month and will miss all of this season, with next season also coming into Jeopardy. 6/13/25 | Houston Astros rout Minnesota Twins, Chris Paddack in series opener. Stilll, it was Paddack who suffered the most startling fall. Four pitches into his start, the tall righthander, a proud Texan who said he loves pitching in his home state, faced a second-and-third jam with nobody out. He walked the bases loaded with one out, but struck out Jake Meyers to give himself a chance to escape unscathed. But Cam Smith spoiled that plan by looping a single into center field, scoring two, and Jacob Melton followed with an RBI hit of his own. 5/26/25 | What Has Caused the Major Offensive Turnaround for This Astros Outfielder?. The Houston Astros seemed to know what they had in Jake Meyers. The former 13th-round pick always showed himself to be a good defender but had issues with the bat in his hand, posting three straights seasons with an OPS+ figure well under the league average of 100 while also having defensive bWAR numbers above zero. Meyers had the worst slash line of his career since becoming a full-time big league player with a mark of .219/.286/.360, but his career-high bWAR of 1.7 was largely due to his defensive bWAR being 1.0. While those types of players are valuable for teams around the league that need reliable defensive substitutes who can play multiple positions across the outfield, Meyers' lack of impact on offense for the Astros made him a real non-tender candidate this past winter. 4/07/25 | Jhoan Duran drops new sweeper on Astros. When he struck out Houston's Jake Meyers for the second out of the eighth inning Sunday afternoon, right-hander Jhoan Duran did the little hop on the mound he typically does to accentuate the moment. There seemed this time to be a bit more spring in Duran's step, possibly because it was a particularly nasty looking pitch, one he had never thrown before in a game: a sweeper. Duran threw Meyers an 87.3 mph sweeper, per MLB Statcast, that had 11 inches of horizontal break and 41 inches of drop. Perhaps it was because he had no idea it was coming, but Meyers had no chance.
