8/01/25 Frederick: Next time opportunity knocks for the Twins, don't slam the door in its face. As he tried to generate optimism for the Twins' future at a moment when there appears to be zero of it Thursday evening after Minnesota traded away a massive chunk of its roster, Twins president Derek Falvey recounted transactional successes of the past in which he flipped valuable veterans for upstart prospects who helped Minnesota in years to come. Trading away Nelson Cruz resulted in Joe Ryan. Trading away Eduardo Escobar brought in Jhoan Duran. Duran and Ryan did turn out to be great players.

8/01/25 Report: Why Red Sox talks with Twins fell apart for Joe Ryan. Joe Ryan would have been a good fit for the Red Sox starting rotation given their need for an impact starter. The Twins wanted a package that started with either Jarren Duran or Wilyer Abreu, The Athletic's Dan Hayes reported. The Red Sox didn't budge, and talks fell apart between the two teams due to Boston's unwillingness to offer an “enticing enough package of their top-tier prospects,” Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reported.

8/01/25 Following stunning fire sale, rebuilding Twins visit Guardians. The Minnesota Twins begin a three-game series at the Cleveland Guardians on Friday night. Twins right-hander Joe Ryan (10-5, 2.82 ERA) will start against Guardians right-hander Gavin Williams (6-4, 3.51) in the American League Central Division matchup. The rest of the roster is in flux after Minnesota stunned the baseball world by dealing shortstop Carlos Correa to the Houston Astros, closer Jhoan Duran and outfielder Harrison Bader to the Philadelphia Phillies, two more position players and their next four-best relievers elsewhere.

7/30/25 Phillies Acquire Rumored Red Sox Trade Target. With the Boston Red Sox in Minnesota for the team's last game before Major League Baseball's trade deadline on Thursday, a social media post from The New York Post's Jon Heyman connecting the Red Sox to Twins closer Jhoan Durán added a hint of intrigue to an eventual 13-1 Red Sox victory. With interest in acquiring Twins' All-Star starting pitcher Joe Ryan already long established, Heyman's post about the Red Sox's considering a trade for a closer of Durán's caliber seemed almost too good to be true. That fact was later reinforced when ESPN's Jeff Passan reported that the Philadelphia Phillies have acquired Durán in exchange for two of Philadelphia's top prospects, right-handed pitcher Mick Abel

7/23/25 Red Sox's Latest Joe Ryan Trade Update Doesn't Sound Promising. The Boston Red Sox have been talking a big game about making meaningful additions at the trade deadline, so Wednesday's latest update is a bit of a red flag. In a comprehensive trade deadline preview, ESPN's Jeff Passan suggested that the Red Sox might not be all that likely to make "large-scale" moves, based on the insider's intel from around the league. "At this moment, the Red Sox are not inclined to engage in any large-scale deadline moves," Passan wrote. "Holding now would speak to the Red Sox's comfort with their current roster and the exceptional price to bolster it."

7/21/25 MLB insider crushes Red Sox fans' dreams with trade deadline reality. The Red Sox have vaulted back into playoff contention thanks to a recent winning streak, and that has put them into buy mode at the upcoming trade deadline. Unfortunately, despite numerous rumors suggesting otherwise, it appears that Twins ace Joe Ryan will not be on the market. Ryan, who the Red Sox have been linked to for several weeks now, has taken a huge step forward in 2025, with a 2.72 ERA and 0.915 WHIP through 109 1/3 innings.

7/20/25 5 realistic trade chips the Red Sox might dangle at the 2025 deadline. All the noise coming out of Boston this week is that it is full steam ahead at the 2025 trade deadline. Both ESPN's Jeff Passan and The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal said during the break that Boston is going to be very aggressive this year. There were already rumors surrounding a trade involving Minnesota's Joe Ryan and Jarren Duran that have since fizzled, but rumors like that give some semblance of where the Sox are looking in terms of quality.
