8/01/25 Reese Kaplan -- Jumping Into the Deep End of the Pool. After the news was announced that the Mets had made two significant additions to their bullpen there was happiness, pride and a propensity to set up a long overdue celebration to cap off the forgotten 100 days of the 2025 season while finally seeing a significant step towards overdue change. Jose Butto is already off the current roster. Would the Mets go with an eight-man bullpen and a collection of 13 position players?

7/31/25 [NBC Sports Bay Area] - Athletics trade veteran Miguel Andujar to Reds ahead of 2025 MLB trade deadline. What to know The Giants swung two trades ahead of the 3 p.m. PT deadline, sending All-Star closer for four prospects, while also for a pitching prospect. The Giants to the New York Mets on Wednesday for reliever Jose Butto and prospects Drew Gilbert and Blade Tidwell. San Francisco was expected to add to the roster ahead of the trade deadline, but it has stumbled since Devers joined the team. The Giants posted a 13-24 record since June 17 and lost their last six games — all at home. The Giants made the biggest move of the season by acquiring three-time MLB All-Star Rafael Devers from the Boston Red Sox on June 15. The Athletics made a blockbuster trade Thursday morning, and starting pitcher JP Sears to the San Diego Padres for top prospect Leo De Vries and three other prospects. The Athletics also to the Reds for pitching prospect Kenya Huggins. Read below for all the MLB trade deadline news as it played out on Thursday:

7/23/25 New York Mets get major bullpen reinforcement back from IL. The New York Mets received a significant boost in their injured bullpen. Prior to their series finale with the Los Angeles Angels at Citi Field on Wednesday, the Mets activated right-handed relief pitcher Jose Butto from the 15-day IL. 5/10/25 Mets need more from Dedniel Nunez, Jose Butto out of bullpen. The Mets previously possessed the best bullpen in baseball, featuring a group that carried the team through much of April. Now, with their two lefties out for the season and a heavy innings load, it's become more challenging to replicate that April success. The Mets are up for the challenge, but they'll need more from right-hander Dedniel Nuñez and consistency from right-hander Jose Butto. For the most part, Butto has pitched well this season, going 2-0 with a 3.27 ERA and a 3.65 FIP over 22 innings, the third-most on the team behind Max Kranick (22 2/3 innings) and Huascar Brazobán (22 1/3).

4/27/25 Bullpen can't hold 7-1 lead in second walk-off loss to Nats. The Mets' bullpen has been dominant over the last month, protecting leads for four innings or more as the starting rotation has struggled to go deep into games in the first month of the season. The Mets watched the Washington Nationals erase a seven-run lead in the third game of a four-game set Sunday at Nationals Park. Jose Butto couldn't hold the inherited runners on base, and then gave up three of his own in the bottom of the seventh before Ryne Stanek blew his second save of the series. The Nationals walked off for the second time in three days, handing the Mets an 8-7 loss.

3/14/25 Mets Notes: Jose Butto nursing groin injury, Brandon Nimmo's availability for Opening Day not in doubt. Mets manager Carlos Mendoza shared thoughts on Jose Butto, Kodai Senga, and Brandon Nimmo following the team's tie with the Cardinals on Friday night.

2/14/25 Jose Butto relieved to know the Mets plan to keep him in the bullpen this season. When the Mets informed Jose Butto of their intention to keep him in the bullpen in 2025, it brought the right-hander some relief. Whatever the role is, Butto is happy to play it, but after a year of uncertainty, the 26-year-old is just happy to know the plan early. “I feel good right now because last year I started, and I [went] back to relieving, but now they say that from the beginning, I'm a reliever,” Butto told the Daily News Friday at Clover Park. “I can start my routine from the beginning of spring training, I can more be comfortable, talk more with the guys.”

LUCIE — A potentially full rotation that includes reinforcements, and José Buttó's success in the bullpen last season helped make the decision easy for Mets officials. Buttó will work in spring training as a reliever. “He wants to contribute and do whatever it will take to help the team win games,” manager Carlos Mendoza said Thursday after Buttó faced hitters in live batting practice. “We used him out of that role last year and he's comfortable, but who knows what will happen throughout

2/13/25 Tom Brennan: Lest We Forget; Leery of Siri; Alvarez is Psyched. 7 game winner Jose Butto threw 74 innings, and batters hit .167. Phil Maton in 29 innings had the team's best WHIP (0.84). Who would have thought before 2024 that they'd get roughly 150 innings from those three guys, with MLB hitters batting just about .175 against them?

11/13/24 Looking at Mets' bullpen situation after staff came up short on path to NLCS. The Mets' decision to not go all-in at the trade deadline was prudent at the time. President of baseball operations David Stearns made some effective moves that didn't cost the team any high-end prospects and he gave the bullpen enough fortification that the Mets were able to grab a Wild Card playoff spot. The circle of trust seemed to shrink with every round. Right-handed swingman Jose Butto was shelled in high-leverage situations, right-hander Phil Maton struggled and veteran Adam Ottavino was left off the roster completely in the series against the Los Angeles Dodgers after going unused in the Wild Card round and NLDS.

9/16/24 Mets' Edwin Diaz, Reed Garrett, Jose Butto silence Nationals in key spots during win. The previous two days ended in disappointment for the Mets, and while the offense was mostly to blame, the bullpen came up short in the excruciating defeats. Monday night produced a different result that wouldn't have been possible without impeccable work from three key relievers. Jose Butto, Edwin Diaz and Reed Garrett all tossed impressive shutout innings, helping the Mets knock off the pesky Nationals, 2-1, in 10 innings to retake the lead for the final National League wild card spot. “That's what it comes down to, making pitches and staying on the attack, executing, knowing the situation, not giving in, and they did that today,” manager Carlos Mendoza said. 3 Edwin Diaz reacts after pitching

8/25/24 Mets bullpen rues missed chance to gain ground in playoff race. The Mets had a 2-0 lead entering the eighth inning Sunday, but Jose Butto and Edwin Diaz each allowed home runs in a tough loss to the San Diego Padres.

8/21/24 Jose Butto earns trust from Carlos Mendoza despite tough outing. In an outing in which he lost the lead, Jose Butto might have won a bit more trust within the Mets. The starter turned reliever found another way to prove himself in a strange and eventful eighth inning in which he allowed the game-tying run but nothing more while fighting both a strong Orioles lineup and an inconsistent strike zone during a 4-3 Mets win at Citi Field on Wednesday . “I thought he did a hell of a job,” manager Carlos Mendoza said of Butto, who pitched for a second time on one day of rest and more battled than dominated. 3 Jose Butto earned a ton of trust from manager Carlos Mendoza on Wednesday. 8/19/24 Mets Notebook: Jose Butto too valuable in team's bullpen to transition to starter. A few weeks ago, it appeared as though the Mets were flirting with moving right-hander Jose Butto back to the starting rotation, but the team is no longer discussing a move. “The good thing is he provides that flexibility that he could be a starter, he could be in the bullpen,” Mendoza said. With a bullpen full of unreliable arms and a starter staff that leads the National League in walks, Butto stands out. The team has little restrictions on his usage, which makes it easy to plug him into various spots in the game.

(AP Photo/Noah K. Murray) AP By Manny Gómez | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com NEW YORK — Mets pitcher José Buttó has devoted himself to doing whatever it takes to help his team win. All season, when asked how satisfied he is with his role, he repeats some version of “I just want to help the team.” In Monday's 15-2 win over the Twins at Citi Field, Buttó entered in relief of starter Jose Quintana with an 11-1 lead in the seventh inning. 7/29/24 Jose Butto tosses three innings to save Mets' bullpen in possible rotation preparation. The bullpen door swung open and a surprise followed. It was Jose Butto, the Mets' relief weapon. But why now? The Mets held a 10-run lead. Jose Butto has become a force out of the Mets' bullpen. USA TODAY Sports It was a strange spot for Carlos Mendoza to use one of his most trusted arms. There was a reason for it. “It's a decision we had to make there,” the manager said after the Mets' 15-2 pasting of the Twins at Citi Field on Monday . “We saw an opportunity to keep him stretched out somehow and give the bullpen a blow. He did a helluva job. He went out there, threw strikes and was able to finish the game. “I thought it was important to keep his pitch count up. We'll see what happens here [at
