7/29/25 Nationals Star CJ Abrams Stealing Bases Without Getting Caught. The Washington Nationals are in a slump, but shortstop CJ Abrams and his offensive production is something the Nats can be giddy about. Abrams is tied with the Tampa Bay Rays José Caballero and the Chicago Cubs' Kyle Tucker for the second-longest current streak.

7/27/25 Twins' bullpen struggles against Nationals with trade deadline looming. This year's trade deadline continues to loom over the Twins, and another 7-2 blowout loss to the Nationals on Sunday might've answered what their strategy should be before Thursday. Nationals shortstop CJ Abrams took Cole Sands deep for a lead-off home run and the Twins were never able to take the lead. Matt Walner launched a 452-foot home run in the second inning, and Trevor Larnach drove in a run in the third to even the game at two, but Washington proceeded to add five unanswered runs on the scoreboard. Sands let up three hits in two innings before getting relieved by Danny Coulombe, who let up one earned run in his lone inning of work.

CJ Abrams had a three-run double against Minnesota All-Star Joe Ryan, Alex Call homered and drove in three runs and Luis García Jr. also went deep as the Washington Nationals beat the Twins 9-3 on Saturday night. Mitchell Parker (7-10) allowed two runs and eight hits in 5 2/3 innings to win his second straight start for the Nationals. Luis García got four outs, and Jackson Rutledge allowed a run in the eighth before Andrew Chafin closed it out with a scoreless ninth.

7/14/25 Nationals First Overall Pick Eli Willits Has Star Potential If This Aspect Develops. It has been a disappointing first half of the season for the Washington Nationals, who came into the year with some expectations of improvement. Since winning the World Series in 2019, the Nationals have been one of the worst teams in baseball, and their rebuild doesn't appear close to being completed. While there have been some bright spots like CJ Abrams, James Wood, and MacKenzie Gore, it hasn't translated to more wins for the franchise. Washington has been trying to stockpile young talent, but the results have been hit or miss.

7/14/25 Nationals Notebook: Break-time for a broken season. The Washington Nationals (38-58) limped into the All-Star break after getting swept in Milwaukee, but the organization that made a regime change last week has its eye on the future. The front office of Mike DeBartolo drafted promise Sunday night by selecting Oklahoma high school shortstop Eli Willits, University of South Carolina outfielder Ethan Petty and Mississippi high school pitcher Landon Harmon in the first three rounds of the MLB Draft. Optimists will track their progress toward the major league over the next few years, while cynics will simply say that the trio will be ready to replace CJ Abrams, James Wood and MacKenzie Gore when they sign their free agent deals elsewhere.

6/29/25 Abrams' 2-run triple in 11th helps Nats beat Angels; Washington's Wood walked intentionally 4 times. CJ Abrams' two-run triple capped a three-run 11th inning, and Washington's James Wood became the sixth player in MLB history to be intentionally walked four times as the Nationals beat the Los Angeles Angels 7-4 on Sunday. Daylen Lile led off the 11th with a single off Connor Brogdon (1-1) and automatic runner Brady House advanced to third. Drew Miles doubled and drove in the go-ahead run before Abrams tripled, giving the Nationals their first series win Anaheim since 2005 — their first season after relocating from Montreal.

6/25/25 Nationals Breakout Star Takes Shot at New York Yankees. Despite the underwhelming season the Washington Nationals are having again, there have been plenty of exciting developments for the team. Along those lines, CJ Abrams continues to look like a franchise cornerstone and MacKenzie Gore has finally developed into the ace the Nationals believed they were getting when they acquired him as a headliner in the Juan Soto deal.

6/24/25 CJ Abrams Only Third Player in Nationals Franchise History To Achieve This Feat. Prior to last night's game against the San Diego Padres there had only been two players in the Washington Nationals history to record 100-stolen bases in a Nats uniform, now there are three. In a win against the Padres, shortstop CJ Abrams stole his 100th base in the sixth inning joining Trea Turner (192) and Ian Desmond (122) according to Nationals Communications. Turner spent his first 6.5 seasons in the Majors in a Washington uniform.

6/22/25 Washington Nationals Star Near Top of Several National League Batting Leaders. The Washington Nationals continue to make their case for their young sluggers to represent the National League in the All-Star Game next month. The Official Nationals Communications account on X (formerly Twitter) made the case for shorstop CJ Abrams, who at the time was near the top of the National League in multiple hitting categories. Among shortstops in the NL, at the time of the post, he was sitting first in slugging percentage (.478) as well as OPS (.832). OPS is the combination of on-base percentage and slugging percentage that shows a complete picture of a player's offensive capability.

6/13/25 Nationals Young Star 'Could Be Getting the Barry Bonds Treatment Soon'. The Washington Nationals have a few very good young players who have emerged as legitimate foundational pieces for their rebuild. Shortstop CJ Abrams and ace starting pitcher MacKenzie Gore have both been excellent, but it is left fielder James Wood who looks to be the true franchise cornerstone right now. All three players, along with outfielder Robert Hassell III -- who recently made his big league debut -- and right-handed pitching prospect Jarlin Susana, were acquired from the San Diego Padres in the Juan Soto blockbuster deal.

6/11/25 Nationals Star Has Does This More Times Than Any Shortstop Since 2023. Despite a lost to the New York Mets on Tuesday, star Washington Nationals shortstop CJ Abrams had a stellar game. Abrams stepped up to hit five times and he ended up with two doubles, a home run and was hit by a pitch. Since 2023, he has gotten on base four or more times in a single game a total of 14 times. This is the most by any National League shortstop according to the official Nationals Communications.

6/10/25 Washington Nationals Star Slugger Back on Track After Brutal End to Last Season. Heading into the MLB offseason, there were legitimate concerns for the Washington Nationals about shortstop CJ Abrams. It was a far cry from the .268/.343/.489 slash line with 15 home runs, 21 doubles, six triples, 48 RBI and 15 stolen bases in 88 games and 398 plate appearances.

6/08/25 Washington Nationals Infield Prospect on Slow Burn to Replace CJ Abrams. When the Washington Nationals selected Luke Dickerson in the second round of last year's MLB Draft, they knew it would take him time to develop. CJ Abrams has the position on lock down. Abrams, just one of the payoffs from the Juan Soto trade, won't be a free agent until 2029. Sure the Nationals can work to get him into a long-term deal that helps him get through arbitration and keeps him in Washington for the long run.

5/25/25 Nationals Should Closely Monitor Paul Skenes' Situation with Pirates. The Washington Nationals have done a great job of building a strong foundation for what they hope is their next championship core. Several All-Stars have emerged in recent years, with shortstop CJ Abrams already reaching that level in 2024 and a few of his teammates looking to earn that impressive title in 2025. Left fielder James Wood is turning into one of the most feared power hitters in baseball and is only scratching the surface of his potential with his opposite-field approach. On the mound, MacKenzie Gore is beginning to realize the impressive potential he possesses as an emerging ace.

5/18/25 Nationals mash five home runs, sweep hapless Orioles. CJ Abrams hit the game's first pitch for the first of his two home runs and the visiting Washington Nationals went on to beat the staggering Baltimore Orioles 10-4 on Sunday afternoon. Luis Garcia Jr., Dylan Crews and Josh Bell also homered for the Nationals, who've won three games in a row following a 1-8 stretch. The second game under interim manager Tony Mansolino didn't go much better for the Orioles than Saturday's game.
