7/31/25 Mets dodge another injury scare after Francisco Alvarez hit in head. Although the New York Mets were swept by the San Diego Padres, they seemingly avoided something much worse. In the bottom of the fifth inning of Wednesday's eventual 5-0 defeat, catcher Francisco Alvarez took a foul ball directly to the side of his catcher's mask. The 23-year-old finished the inning, but was replaced behind the plate next inning by Luis Torrens, who finished the game for New York. Fortunately, it didn't take long for Mets manager Carlos Mendoza to provide a relieving update after the contest.

7/24/25 Francisco Alvarez Leads Mets to Win in Return vs Angels. Catcher Francisco Alvarez rejoined the New York Mets on Monday night, July 21, at Citi Field, just one month after being optioned to Triple-A Syracuse. The 23-year-old was recalled ahead of the team's series opener against the Los Angeles Angels and was inserted into the starting lineup, batting eighth and catching. In his first Major League game since June 21, Alvarez reached base three times, going 1-for-2 with two walks and two runs scored. The Mets, who were trailing earlier in the game, used that momentum to complete a 7-5 comeback win.

7/22/25 Back in majors, Alvarez helps Mets to comeback win over Angels. After tearing up Triple-A pitching for a few weeks, catcher Francisco Alvarez was recalled Monday by the New York Mets and immediately reinserted into the starting lineup. In a somewhat surprising move, the 23-year-old Alvarez was demoted to the minors on June 22 — one day after he went 2 for 5 with a 452-foot home run late in an 11-4 victory at Philadelphia. At the time, he was scuffling on defense and batting only .236 with three homers, three doubles, 11 RBIs and a .652 OPS in 35 games this season. Mets manager Carlos Mendoza called the move “kind of like a wakeup call” for Alvarez, who had been a big league regular since 2023 after reaching the majors late in the previous season.

The catcher had six homers in his past four games for Triple-A Syracuse entering Saturday night and continues to show improvement behind the plate, according to manager Carlos Mendoza, in what has been an open-ended minor league assignment. Unlike when the Mets optioned Luisangel Acuña to Syracuse last month knowing he would return after receiving 40-50 at-bats, Mendoza said there is no such structure in place for Alvarez (who was optioned June 22).

7/19/25 Why the Mets need to call Francisco Alvarez back up. It has been nearly a month since the New York Mets sent down catcher Francisco Alvarez to Triple-A Syracuse. Alvarez was demoted for having struggled immensely early on this season. The Mets have been able to hold down the fort back in Queens, but it is time to get the number one catcher back in his righful position. Without Alvarez, Luis Torrens has been the go-to guy, with Hayden Senger playing backup.

7/17/25 Insider gets clear about Francisco Alvarez's Mets promotion timeline. On June 22, the New York Mets announced that they were optioning 23-year-old catcher Francisco Alvarez to Triple-A Syracuse. This was the byproduct of Alvarez struggling both offensively and behind the dish this offseason, as he was hitting .236 with a .652 OPS and 3 home runs while also playing below-average defense over 35 games played (he started the season on the IL with a hand injury).

7/09/25 How Mets' Francisco Alvarez could have his free agency delayed. The New York Mets have managed to get themselves back on track, winning five of their past six games, but one player who hasn't been a part of that turnaround is catcher Francisco Alvarez. There has been little word on Alvarez since he was sent to the minor leagues on June 22nd, although the team hasn't gotten a ton of production from Luis Torrens and Hayden Senger in his stead. Since being sent to Syracuse, Alvarez has been hitting well, with four home runs and a .256/.326/.590 slash line in 11 games.

7/09/25 Francisco Alvarez gets candid about Mets decision to demote him. On June 22, news broke that the New York Mets were optioning 23-year-old catcher Francisco Alvarez to Triple-A Syracuse, which stemmed from Alvarez struggling (he was hitting .236 with a .652 OPS and 3 home runs while also playing below-average defense) throughout the 2025 campaign.
