Friday's series opener between the Arizona Diamondbacks and Pittsburgh Pirates was a pitchers' duel fit for the history books, but only one team could come out on top. D-backs righty Ryne Nelson and Pirates rookie Mike Burrows each opened the contest with 6.0 scoreless innings. The former gave up one hit and two walks with four strikeouts, while the latter allowed three hits and one walk with five strikeouts. The Ducks' 6-foot-10 right-hander was selected by the Twins in the fourth round with the No. 119 overall pick of the MLB draft on Monday. Reitz went 5-1 with a 3.50 ERA and had 73 strikeouts over 64 1/3 innings last season at Oregon after transferring from Saint Mary's, where he spent two seasons. The second current Oregon player to be drafted this year, Reitz joins Mason Neville and is the highest selected UO pitcher since Ryne Nelson went No. 56 overall in 2019.
