7/27/25 Roundtable: Lions Training Camp Storylines to Watch Week Two. 1.) What has caught your attention the most at Lions camp? Christian Booher: I think the physicality has been the biggest storyline early on. The Lions' offensive and defensive units have been going at it throughout the first few practices, and I think this reflects the team's overall hunger to get back into competing at a high level. On an individual basis, some of the names I've read about on a consistent basis include Sam LaPorta, Jameson Williams, Terrion Arnold and Aidan Hutchinson.

6/30/25 Former Iowa Star Tight End Poised for Bounceback Season in Detroit. Former Iowa Hawkeye star tight end Sam LaPorta had a bit of a down year in his second season with the Detroit Lions. While a statline of 60 catches for 726 yards and seven touchdowns is hardly a bad season for a second-year tight end, his rookie campaign was a record-setting year at the position, which set a high bar. LaPorta is due for a third-year bounceback season, but it's not just because he's coming into this season looking for one. 6/26/25 Detroit Lions' Sam LaPorta Reveals New Mindset Entering 2025 Season. Sam LaPorta got about the best preparation a college tight end with NFL aspirations could get when he was a member of the Iowa Hawkeyes from 2019 to 2022. That's part of why the Detroit Lions selected him with the 34th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. LaPorta wasn't a star college tight end with the Hawkeyes. He caught just one touchdown in his senior season, though he also notched 657 yards. His foundation was set in Iowa City, though. That means a lot to NFL talent evaluators because Kirk Ferentz has built an NFL player factory. LaPorta has since become one of the best young tight ends in the game for the Lions. He's notched 17 touchdown receptions and 1,615 yards over his first two NFL
