6/30/25 Struggling Giants Reliever Not as Awful as His Numbers Suggest. The San Francisco Giants' bullpen has a real argument as the single best unit in all of baseball. It's deep, with a blend of young ascending players and experienced veterans that gives manager Bob Melvin the ability to get strikeouts, force soft contact, or anything in between. Ryan Walker entered the season as one of the faces to the Giants' bullpen before anyone know how consistently dominant of a unit it would be. Walker, 29, has a 4.64 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP in 2025.

6/29/25 Giants pitcher gave up maybe the weirdest run on the oddest decision in MLB history. San Francisco Giants relief pitcher Ryan Walker was on the mound in Chicago. The White Sox had second and third in the seventh inning. It was 3-2 Chicago on the scoreboard, but Walker had an 0-2 count and two outs with a chance to get out of the inning. Then, as Walker began to stride toward home plate, disaster struck.

6/10/25 Fantasy baseball reliever stock watch: Giant value in San Francisco's pen. Eric Karabell is a senior writer for fantasy baseball, football and basketball at ESPN. Eric is a charter member of FSWA Hall of Fame and author of "The Best Philadelphia Sports Arguments". Doval's already tenuous walk rate ballooned, he served a three-week stint at Triple-A, and surprising RHP Ryan Walker took over closing duties.

5/20/25 SF Giants' bullpen, already best in MLB, could get even better. Here's why.. The Giants began Tuesday tied for the major-league lead with a 2.64 ERA from their relievers, but subtract all the runs allowed by their closer, a title typically reserved for the best of the bunch, and the number sparkles even more: 2.33. The season has not started the way Ryan Walker envisioned, but there's reason to believe his fortunes are turning. It never ended up in the dugout, but it had often seemed like Walker wasn't sure where his pitches were going for much of the season's first six weeks.

5/12/25 San Francisco Giants Should Make Change at Closer Sooner Rather Than Later. The San Francisco Giants are off to a pretty good start this season. The Giants were was able to beat the Chicago Cubs to begin the week, which is a very good series win. The team was swept over the weekend by the Minnesota Twins, but all the games were close and there shouldn't be any panic over it. San Francisco has been using Ryan Walker as their closer all year.

4/25/25 Buster Posey states Giants still believe in closer Ryan Walker amid early 2025 MLB season struggles. The Giants still have faith in right-handed closer Ryan Walker despite his recent struggles. San Francisco president of baseball operations Buster Posey told KNBR's Brian Murphy and Markus Boucher on Thursday morning why Walker's latest two-game stretch, in which he allowed six hits and six runs in 1/3 innings, doesn't define the 29-year-old, nor earn him a demotion behind fellow right-handed back-end reliever Camilo Doval.

3/20/25 How Walker became even more dominant after earning Giants closer role. When the pandemic shut the sports world down in 2020, Ryan Walker didn't have much hope of ever reaching the big leagues. As he contemplated his future plans, Walker, who lives in the Phoenix area, met a local locksmith and struck up a conversation while he got new keys for his truck. When Walker did so, he found that he was essentially thrown into the fire. In an odd way, Walker thinks that helped him ultimately reach his goals as a reliever.

3/05/25 San Francisco Giants Star Reliever Reveals What Led to Major League Breakthrough. The San Francisco Giants stumbled upon a diamond in the rough when they selected pitcher Ryan Walker with the No. 916 overall pick in the 2018 MLB draft. “I think that's what kept me in the game, honestly,” Walker said, via Tyler Kepner of The Athletic (subscription required). Against the odds with his crossfire delivery, Walker was able to intrigue the team enough to keep him through 2020, when the minor league season was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Walker saw an immediate increase in velocity within a few weeks, reaching 97 mph, and his body was starting to feel better overall, too.

3/04/25 San Francisco Giants Need 'Fireman' To Emerge in Bullpen With Ryan Walker As Closer. One of the breakout stars for the San Francisco Giants during their underwhelming 2024 campaign was relief pitcher Ryan Walker. Nowadays, Walker wouldn't have even been selected as there are only 20 rounds in the MLB draft. COVID-19 wiped out the 2020 minor league season, but the Giants thought highly enough of Walker to keep him around into 2021.

2/28/25 Breakout San Francisco Giants Star Named 'Honorable Mention' in Reliever Rankings. As a whole, the San Francisco Giants bullpen was disappointing. ESPN's Buster Olney recently released a ranking of the relief pitchers in MLB. While there were no Giants named in the top 10, emerging star Ryan Walker was listed as an "honorable mention." Walker has had a long road to getting to the active MLB roster, but it looks to have paid off as he is finally establishing himself with consistent solid play.

2/12/25 San Francisco Giants Non-Roster Invitee Shares Positive Update on Road to Recovery. There are a few spots still up for grabs on the San Francisco Giants' Opening Day roster that players will be competing for during spring training. There are likely a few spots that can be seized in the bullpen, where manager Bob Melvin offered an interesting update on Wednesday. Ryan Walker will be his closer, which many people presumed would be the case after the strong debut he had in 2024. One player to keep an eye on is veteran Lou Trivino.

1/17/25 Why taking over Giants closer role 'a dream come true' to Walker. Ryan Walker still is awed by the fact that he's the Giants closer. The 29-year-old pitcher recounted what it was like to get promoted to the top of San Francisco's bullpen. “It was a dream come true honestly,” Walker said Thursday on KNBR's “Murph & Markus.” “Never in my career would I have thought I would have become a closer in the big leagues. I just wanted a job, so this is a pretty amazing opportunity and I'm thankful for the team to even trust me to do this. It was pretty crazy, nobody ever wants to see anyone struggle, that sucks. 9/08/24 Heated exchange between SF Giants' rookie infielders overshadows series win vs. playoff-hopeful Padres. Nothing, it seems, comes simply to these Giants, especially not as they attempt to break in a group of young players they hope can morph into core contributors next year. Not even their first series win since the third week of August, not even coming against the majors' hottest team since the All-Star break, the San Diego Padres, not when their duo of rookie middle infielders let a pop up drop between them then had to be separated during a heated exchange in the dugout. The Giants looked like they were on their way to a rout Sunday afternoon after their fourth homer of the game opened a 7-0 lead, but they needed Ryan Walker to record the final five outs to eke out a 7-6 win after Tyler Fitzgerald and Marco Luciano's mistake allowed two runs to cross the plate in the seventh.
