7/09/25 | Arizona Diamondbacks Recall Former Postseason Hero. On Wednesday, the Arizona Diamondbacks recalled left-hand reliever Andrew Saalfrank from Triple-A Reno, the team announced. In a corresponding move, right-handed long reliever Bryce Jarvis was optioned to Triple-A. Saalfrank, 27, was suspended on June 4 of 2024 for placing bets on baseball in the 2021 and 2022 seasons. The Aces held a 3-1 lead heading into the ninth inning, but left-hand reliever Andrew Saalfrank issued a one-out single, a walk, and an eventual walk-off three-run homer, blowing his first save since his return from suspension. The Aces' offense was somewhat lackluster, stranding eight and going 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position. Arizona Diamondbacks reliever Andrew Saalfrank pitched a scoreless inning in his first game back from suspension on Tuesday night for the Triple-A Reno Aces. Suspended for one year due to violating Major League Baseball's gambling policy, Saalfrank was reinstated on June 5. All bets took place while in the minor leagues. After serving his suspension and staying in shape, he was allowed to resume working out at the team's Salt River Fields complex starting in early May, and thus was able to hit the road running ready to begin his road back to the major leagues. Of all the players who appeared in the World Series this year, I doubt any would have got longer odds of that at the start of the season than Andrew Saalfrank. Despite the Diamondbacks using fifty different pitchers in the Cactus League, Saalfrank's contribution was limited to just 2.1 innings of work. To be fair, that's about what you'd expect out of a sixth-round draft pick in 2019 who, to that point in his professional career, had thrown just 14 innings above High-A ball. If you'd told Andrew then, that he'd appear in more games than any pitcher save José Leclerc in the 2023 post-season, I imagine he'd have edged away from you nervously.
