7/02/25	Tigers place starting pitcher on injured list amid doubleheader roster shuffle. The Detroit Tigers placed right-handed starting pitcher Sawyer Gipson-Long on the 15-day injured list with neck stiffness before Wednesday's doubleheader in Washington. Right-hander Tyler Owens was recalled from Triple-A Toledo to take his spot on the roster. It was one of a flurry of moves on Wednesday. The Tigers also added left-handed reliever Bailey Horn as the 27th man for the doubleheader and formally placed outfielder Kerry Carpenter on the injured list with a right hamstring strain. Shortstop Trey Sweeney was recalled from Toledo to take his place. There are likely to be more changes on the horizon. Right-hander Sawyer Gipson-Long would be on turn to either start or pitch in a bulk relief role, just as he did in Tampa on Saturday. “We will have an update as we get through this series,” was all manager AJ Hinch would say about it. While the Tigers were playing a spring game against the Twins in Fort Myers on Wednesday, right-hander Sawyer Gipson-Long was back in TigerTown preparing for his first “competition” of the spring. Gipson-Long, the 26-year-old starting pitcher the Tigers acquired from the Twins for Michael Fulmer in August 2022, was intent on battling for one of the five rotation spots.
