7/30/25 Cubs Expressing Interest in Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen in Risky Deadline Move. The Chicago Cubs’ starting rotation is top-heavy. Outside of his last start, Shota Imanaga has been stellar this season, and veteran left-hander Matthew Boyd continues to be the epitome of consistency. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about the rest of Chicago’s starting five.

7/28/25 Cubs Trade Proposal Lands Pirates' Mitch Keller in Exchange for Top Prospect. With the MLB trade deadline fast approaching, the clock is ticking for the Chicago Cubs to improve their starting rotation. While Shota Imanaga and veteran Matthew Boyd deserve praise for their excellent seasons, Chicago cannot expect to contend for a playoff spot, let alone a World Series, with the inconsistencies plaguing their pitching staff. The Cubs have watched their lead in the NL Central vanish, overtaken by the Milwaukee Brewers, and now find themselves playing catch-up.

7/26/25 Chase Meidroth Joins Alfonso Soriano In Rare Crosstown Series History. The White Sox wasted no time attacking Cubs starter Shota Imanaga on Friday at Rate Field. Imanaga laid an 89.3 mph fastball over the heart of the plate for his second pitch of the night, and White Sox shortstop Chase Meidroth drove it 370 feet over the left field fence for a solo home run. "Whenever Chase goes deep, I think everyone gets really excited," Austin Slater, who went 2-for-5 with three runs and an RBI said.

7/24/25 Charlie Morton Emerges as Trade Candidate for Cubs. The Chicago Cubs have seen stiff competition emerge not only across the National League but also within their division as the trade deadline draws closer. The Cubs, once the holders of the best record in baseball, are now second in the NL Central and sit one game behind a resurgent Milwaukee Brewers squad that has won its last 11 games. Starting pitching, specifically, is one area where the club needs to see the most improvement, even with Shota Imanaga's return from injury and Matthew Boyd's breakout All-Star campaign.

7/20/25 Cubs Potential Pitching Trade Target Unlikely to be Moved, Per MLB Insider. It's no secret that the Chicago Cubs need at least one starting pitcher to bolster their rotation for a stretch run to win the National League Central. Right now, the rotation is made up of Shota Imanaga, Matthew Boyd, Colin Rea and Cade Horton. Jameson Taillon is on the 10-day injured list after he suffered a right calf strain before the All-Star break. Left-hander Justin Steele has been out most of the season due to Tommy John surgery.

7/16/25 Cubs Should Make Blockbuster Play for Ace Being Shopped by Rays. With the All-Star Game now in the rearview mirror, Jed Hoyer and his front office will be busy searching for ways to get this Chicago Cubs roster to a place where they can win a World Series championship. The Cubs are reportedly interested in making long-term trade additions while searching for the traditional rental deals that contenders routinely seek out for the second half of the year. It makes sense for Chicago to go after a starting pitcher with club control, giving them another high-end ace to pair with Shota Imanaga this season while also protecting themselves with Justin Steele potentially missing the entire 2026 campaign. With that in mind, the Cubs should go after Taj Bradley of the Tampa Bay Rays.

7/03/25 Chicago Cubs Logical Fit for Red Sox Star Possibly Available at Trade Deadline. There is a lot to like about the Chicago Cubs and how they are playing just beyond the midway point of the season. If the Cubs want to truly make some noise this year in the playoffs, they need to be on the lookout for some pitching help. Shota Imanaga has been great atop the rotation again, but adding another front-line starter to the mix would make sense. Star prospect Matt Shaw got the nod for Opening Day but was demoted after a few weeks to figure things out in Triple-A.

7/02/25 Cubs' Shota Imanaga aims to shut down struggling Guardians. Shota Imanaga returned from injury last week and immediately regained his star form on the mound for the Chicago Cubs. Imanaga, however, hopes to be better than his only other career appearance against Cleveland when the host Cubs try to hand the Guardians a sixth consecutive loss on Wednesday night. After missing seven weeks with a strained left hamstring, Imanaga (4-2, 2.54 ERA) allowed one hit, a walk and struck out three over five innings during Chicago's 3-0 victory at St. Louis on Thursday.
