7/28/25 Houston Astros GM Offers Encouraging Injury Update on Spencer Arrighetti. Although they were just swept at home against the A's, the Houston Astros sit atop the American League West with a 60-46 record, four games ahead of the Seattle Mariners and Texas Rangers. Although this is more of the same from Houston, it's also rather impressive given the injuries the team is going through right now. The names on the shelf for the Astros include regulars such as Spencer Arrighetti, Ronel Blanco, Cristian Javier, Yordan Alvarez, Jeremy Pena and more.

7/20/25 Pair of Injured Astros Starters Shine in Rehab Starts in Minor Leagues. The talk lately has been what the Houston Astros need to do to add starting pitching depth at the trade deadline. This weekend, two injured starting pitchers — Spencer Arrighetti and Cristian Javier — made injury rehab starts in the minor leagues. For Arrighetti, it was his rehab debut with Double-A Corpus Christi on Saturday.

6/27/25 Astros Ace Has Been the Most Clutch Pitcher in Baseball This Season. One of the major reasons that the Houston Astros have found as much success during the 2025 MLB regular season as they have is because of their pitching staff. Despite having more than an entire starting rotation on the injured list, including Spencer Arrighetti, Hayden Wesneski and Ronel Blanco, who were all on the Opening Day roster, the team has found a way to keep chugging along. One of the players anchoring the starting rotation has been ace, Framber Valdez.

6/25/25 Astros listed as trade suitor for $21.05 million World Series hero. The Houston Astros are leading the American League West at 46-33. Spencer Arrighetti, Lance McCullers Jr. and Cristian Javier could be back soon, but Ronel Blanco and Hayden Wesneski are out for the season.

6/23/25 Could Astros Make Play for Key White Sox Outfielder Ahead of Deadline?. The Houston Astros have been upfront about what they are targeting ahead of the deadline. While starting pitching seems to be a must despite the returns of Spencer Arrighetti, Cristian Javier and Luis Garcia seemingly imminent in the second half of the season, it's hard to know what they are going to get from that trio after their extended absences. Right now, with Yordan Alvarez on the injured list and his timetable for return unknown, the Astros only have the switch-hitting Victor Caratini as an option off the bench since their top prospect Jacob Melton was placed on the IL shortly after he debuted.

6/23/25 Injured Astros Pitcher Takes Important Step Toward Return. The Houston Astros have a number of injured pitchers right now, but one of them is taking a huge step in his return from injury. During the team's Sunday pregame radio show, Astros general manager Dana Brown announced that starting pitcher Spencer Arrighetti would be able to throw his first off the mound side sessions this Tuesday per Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle. Arrighetti has made just two starts in 2025 and thrown just 9.2 innings before dealing with a thumb injury that landed him on the injured list. The 25-year-old got a chance last year pretty much out of necessity, but Houston ended up finding a promising backend starter.

6/18/25 Astros Star Closer Has Impacted Winning Nearly As Much As Any Player in Baseball. The Houston Astros are back on top of the American League West entering play on June 18 with a record of 42-31 despite some major obstacles that have had to be overcome. Injuries have hit the Astros hard with several key players currently on the shelf. There is an entire starting rotation on the injured list with Spencer Arrighetti, Hayden Wesneski, Ronel Blanco and Lance McCullers Jr. joining J.P. France, Cristian Javier and Luis Garcia, who are dealing with long-term injuries from last year.

6/16/25 Houston Astros Could Find Rotation Depth in Former Rangers World Series Champ. The Houston Astros have starting pitching depth problems and they're unlikely to get much better anytime soon. Houston has six pitchers on the 60-day injured list. The only one that could be back in a reasonable amount of time is Spencer Arrighetti, who was moved there recently as a procedural move to create a 40-man roster space. Ronel Blanco and Hayden Wesneski are done after Tommy John surgery.

6/14/25 Houston Astros Could Address Lineup Needs by Trading with Miami Marlins. The Houston Astros have gone on one of the more surprising surges in baseball over the last few weeks. Despite suffering several blows to their starting rotation, with Spencer Arrighetti, Hayden Wesneski and Ronel Blanco all hitting the injured list, and their star designated hitter Yordan Alvarez being sidelined, the team is thriving. With a 38-30 record, they are 4.5 games ahead of the Seattle Mariners and Los Angeles Angels, who are tied for second place in the American League West.

6/07/25 Houston Astros Injured Starter Approaching Rehab on Spring Training Buildup. Spencer Arrighetti is on the Houston Astros' current road trip. After breaking his right thumb in a freak batting practice accident on April 7 in Seattle, he's been at home, watching the team on television and allowing his thumb to heal. This allows him to work with team trainers, continue to throw and build his arm back up so he can start again. More News: Do Houston Astros Have the Momentum to Continue Historic Trend?

6/04/25 Astros Should Be Looking To Make Trade With Brewers To Upgrade Lineup Weakness. Death, taxes and the Houston Astros bouncing back from a slow start to sit atop the American League West are the only guarantees in life over the last few years. Despite losing so much talent this past offseason and getting out of the gates slowly, the Astros are right in the thick of the playoff race in the AL. Injuries have diminished their depth, especially on the pitching mound. Spencer Arrighetti suffered a freak accident, breaking his hand, and Hayden Wesneski is sidelined after undergoing season-ending surgery.

5/22/25 Astros Ace Struggles in Latest Start After Phenomenal Beginning to Season. The Houston Astros have had a hit-or-miss start to the 2025 season, and much of the success they have been able to find is via their pitching staff. Multiple starters have shown promising flashes, and when Spencer Arrighetti returns, they will have one more added to the mix. Unfortunately, they have had somewhat of a revolving door with their injuries in the pitching staff, with Forrest Whitley already going on the injured list twice, Ronel Blanco suffering a recent injury and multiple others that have come in the past few days. This has led to a heavy weight being placed on the shoulders of Hunter Brown to be not only an ace, but a guiding force for the pitching staff.

4/09/25 Astros' Spencer Arrighetti won't need surgery on broken thumb. Astros right-hander Spencer Arrighetti will wear a cast but not require surgery on his broken right thumb, manager Joe Espada said Wednesday. Arrighetti was injured when he was hit by a line drive while playing catch in left field before Monday night's game at Seattle. "We want to take it one step at a time, but no surgery is great news," Espada said of the 25-year-old Arrighetti, who was placed on the 15-day IL on Tuesday, retroactive to Monday. Espada said Arrighetti will be in a cast for up to two-and-a-half weeks.
