8/01/25 Royals' trade deadline moves aim to balance winning now and building for the future. By the time manager Matt Quatraro and the Royals boarded a plane late Thursday destined for a weekend series in Toronto, the roster looked a whole lot different from how it did just days ago. The swap with the Padres of Fermin for pitchers Ryan Bergert and Stephen Kolek fortified their rotation, which has been hit hard by injuries, as did the deal with Pittsburgh that sent minor leaguers Evan Sisk and Callan Moss for left-hander Bailey Falter.

8/01/25 Royals' trade deadline moves aim to balance winning now and building for the future. The Kansas City Royals found themselves in a strange and precarious position at the trade deadline: They were both buyers and sellers, interested in supplementing the club to win now while simultaneously continuing to build for the future. Then, minutes before Thursday's deadline, the Royals upgraded their outfielder by landing right fielder Matt Yastrzemski — who is particularly good against right-handed pitching — for low-minors pitching prospect Yunior Marte.

7/12/25 Ryan Bergert Fans 7 in Win Over Phillies, Including Punching Out Bryce Harper Twice. It's way too early to start making any declarations, but Ryan Bergert could be the next former Mountaineer hurler to become a star in the big leagues. Bergert tossed 4.2 innings, allowing just two runs on three hits, while punching out seven and walking two, contributing to the 4-2 win. Safe to say Bergert passed a pretty stiff challenge, although Castellanos and Schwarber each tagged him for a solo shot.

6/19/25 Padres turn to Ryan Bergert in bid to avert sweep by Dodgers. After making three strong starts in succession, San Diego Padres rookie right-hander Ryan Bergert will get the biggest test of his young career when he pitches on the road against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday night. Adding to the responsibility is that Bergert, 25, will try to avoid a four-game sweep by the Dodgers. In a stretch of seven games between the National League West rivals in 11 days, the Dodgers are 5-1 so far. Bergert (1-0, 2.33 ERA) made his major league debut on April 26 and had four relief outings before going back to Triple-A El Paso.

6/08/25 Padres look to rebound, get back on track at Brewers. After a tough walk-off loss, the visiting San Diego Padres will look to bounce back behind rookie right-hander Ryan Bergert against the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday in the rubber game of the three-game series. Bergert (1-0, 2.00 ERA) will be opposed by right-hander Freddy Peralta (5-4, 2.92) for the Brewers, who have won 10 of their last 12 games. San Diego rallied to tie with two runs in the ninth Saturday, only to see rookie Caleb Durbin jump on the first pitch from rookie reliever David Morgan in the bottom half for a walk-off homer that gave the Brewers a 4-3 victory.

6/05/25 Former WVU Star Ryan Bergert Makes Strong First Impression in Padres' Rotation. Former West Virginia pitcher Ryan Bergert made his major league debut a little over a week ago with the San Diego Padres, and after four consecutive scoreless outings, he got his shot to start a game on Tuesday night against the San Francisco Giants. Not only did Bergert pitch well, but he may have done enough to stay in the Padres' rotation for the time being. When Bergert made his debut, he became the 30th Mountaineer in program history to reach the bigs. During his time in Morgantown, Bergert went 4-1 with a 2.30 ERA in 21 appearances, resulting in becoming a sixth-round pick of the Padres in 2021.
