Max Scherzer is in the final stages of his career, but that did not stop the Toronto Blue Jays from going after him this past winter and handing him a one-year, $15.5 million contract. Despite injuries limiting him to just 17 starts in a season-and-a-half with the Texas Rangers in 2023 and 2024, the Blue Jays felt the veteran would be a major boost for their rotation. Fans might have noticed lately that fellow Blue Jays pitcher Eric Lauer is sporting a pretty gnarly injury on his lips. The Toronto Blue Jays have cemented their status as playoff contenders and buyers ahead of the 2025 MLB trade deadline with a recent hot stretch. Prior to their 2-1 loss at the hands of the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday, the team was riding a 10-game winning streak, which included a sweep of the New York Yankees. With their playoff odds currently sitting at 81.1% according to Baseball Reference, it would make sense for the Blue Jays to be aggressive in seeking out upgrades ahead of the deadline at the end of the month.
