7/24/25 | Yusei Kikuchi falters in 5th inning as Angels lose to Mariners. The Angels came out of the All-Star break with visions of joining the Mariners in the buyers' aisle, hopes that were buoyed by their two wins in a three-game series in Philadelphia last weekend. But they are looking more and more like trade-deadline sellers after they lost their fourth straight game on Thursday night, a 4-2 defeat at the hands of the Mariners that dropped the Angels (49-54) 5½ games behind the Boston Red Sox for the American League's third and final wild-card spot. The Los Angeles Angels, after getting swept in a three-game series by the New York Mets to put a dent in their postseason hopes, begin a make-or-break 13-game homestand against the Seattle Mariners on Thursday in Anaheim, Calif. Los Angeles All-Star left-hander Yusei Kikuchi (4-6, 3.13 ERA), who is 1-1 with a 0.39 ERA in four career starts against the Mariners, will start the opener of the four-game series. 7/23/25 | Angels rumors: Ken Rosenthal lays out how LA could 'control' trade deadline. 2025 has been yet another up and down season for the Los Angeles Angels. Losing veteran manager Ron Washington for the rest of the season due to health problems was a massive blow. The Angels are fourth in the AL West, ten games behind the Houston Astros. At the moment, it's unlikely that Los Angeles GM Perry Minasian will sell. “The Angels could all but control the deadline, peddling righty José Soriano (three additional years of club control), lefty Yusei Kikuchi (owed $42 million in 2026-27) and lefty reliever Reid Detmers (three more years of control, and a number of clubs would want him to return to starting),” wrote Rosenthal on Wednesday. 7/13/25 | Angels' Lone All-Star Yusei Kikuchi Provides Update After Scary Injury. Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Yusei Kikuchi provided an update on the injury he sustained in the Angels' 10-5 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday. In the top of the sixth, a line drive struck Kikuchi in the shoulder, however he went on to finish the inning after a few warm up pitches. Interim manager Ray Montgomery said the ball “hit more flesh, nothing bony,” but will still get more than a week of rest with the upcoming All-Star break. “There's a little bit of pain,” Kikuchi said through an interpreter, “but I don't think it's that big of an issue.” Kikuchi withdrew from the AL All-Star team's active roster, as he would not be able to feature in the game on just two days of rest. 7/08/25 | Angels Urged to Trade for $15 Million All-Star in Major Deadline Move. The Los Angeles Angels are still hanging around the Wild Card race in the very competitive American League. While Yusei Kikuchi in particular has been very good this year atop the staff, the Halos could use another veteran arm to further fortify the rotation and push for a playoff spot. When scouring the trade market, the Angels won't be alone in pursuing starting pitching. With this in mind, the Angels may have to get a bit more creative in terms of working on the proverbial fringes. Source: https://www.si.com/mlb/angels/angels-news/angels-u... |
7/07/25 | Angels' Yusei Kikuchi Got Emotional After Receiving All-Star Nod. Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Yusei Kikuchi will go to Atlanta as the Angels' sole representative at the 2025 MLB All-Star Game. It will be his second All-Star Game, but that doesn't make it any less important to the veteran southpaw. “All my teammates were really happy for me,” Kikuchi said through his interpreter. “[General manager] Perry [Minasian] came in and delivered a really heartfelt message. 6/20/25 | Astros Should Bolster Rotation With Trade Deadline Splash for Angels All-Star. The Houston Astros have looked like potentially the best team in the American League over the last several weeks, erasing any question of whether they could sell at the trade deadline. Instead, the far more likely outcome feels like the Astros will buy and re-tool for what very well could be another World Series run due to a weak field in the AL. Houston could also very easily -- and maybe even likely -- stand pat and roll into the home stretch of the season and October with what they have. Last year, they brought in Yusei Kikuchi, and he was sensational over 10 starts down the stretch. Source: https://www.si.com/mlb/astros/news/astros-should-b... |
6/18/25 | Angels' Yusei Kikuchi Opens Up on Whirlwind Performance vs Orioles. 6/18/25 | Cubs once missed out on this target — but he's back in play at the deadline. The Chicago Cubs are in the market for a starting pitcher ahead of the Major League Baseball Trade Deadline, and their search could bring them back to a familiar trade target. Last offseason, Yusei Kikuchi was among the early group of free-agent starting pitchers tied to the Cubs. Kikuchi inked a three-year deal with the Los Angeles Angels worth $63MM. 6/15/25 | Angels blown out by Orioles to complete ugly weekend. At least in the first two games of their series against the Baltimore Orioles, the Angels could take some solace in the fact that they pitched well in one and hit well in the other, even though they ultimately lost both. The Angels lost, 11-2, to the Orioles on a rainy Sunday afternoon, an ugly performance on an ugly day. Starter Yusei Kikuchi made just enough bad pitches and one critical throwing error, overshadowing his season-high 10 strikeouts. Two of the five runs charged to Kikuchi were unearned, with third baseman Kevin Newman's first-inning error leading to one. Source: https://www.sbsun.com/2025/06/15/angels-blown-out-... |
