Within that group, only Dennis Eckersley has more strikeouts. Eckersley made 361 starts before he became a closer, so that number is misleading. Chapman (350, 1,297), Craig Kimbrel (440, 1,266), Lee Smith (478, 1,251), and Kenley Jansen (462, 1,249) are the only pitchers with at least 350 saves and 1,200 strikeouts. According to manager Brian Snitker after the game, right-hander José Ruiz will be designated for assignment and Didier Fuentes will be added to the 40-man roster to start Friday's series opener against the Miami Marlins.
