7/25/25 Yankees blockbuster trade idea lands $70 million Gold Glover from Pirates. The New York Yankees have been struggling a little bit since the month of June. The trade deadline is less than a week away, and New York has holes to fill. DJ LeMahieu was released, and New York feels more comfortable with Jazz Chisholm Jr. at second base. Tim Kelly of Bleacher Report recently made some trade proposals for struggling players and had the Yankees potentially acquiring Ke'Bryan Hayes from the Pittsburgh Pirates.

On July 8, 2025, before the New York Yankees' game against the Seattle Mariners, manager Aaron Boone announced that DJ LeMahieu would be removed from the starting lineup. The Kansas City Royals finished the first half of the 2025 season with a 3-2 walkoff win over the New York Mets, improving to 47-50 on the year. An interesting option is available now on the free agent market. The New York Yankees recently cut ties with DJ LeMahieu. 7/14/25 After being cut by Yankees, 'multiple teams' want DJ LeMahieu. FormerYankees infielder DJ LeMahieu could soon find a new landing spot. Last week, Jon Morosi of MLB Network reported that the 37-year-old was looking to sign with a team to finish the 2025 season after being released by New York. The Yankees owe LeMahieu $22 million for the remainder of his six-year deal that would have run through 2026. General manager Brian Cashman said releasing him was “best for the roster configuration going forward.”

7/13/25 Yankees Connection to Cardinals Gold Glover Growing. The New York Yankees shocked the league and the entire world of baseball yesterday when they announced their decision to designate infielder DJ LeMahieu for assignment. LeMahieu was unhappily benched after Jazz Chisholm Jr. moved from third base back to second, leading to the decision to DFA him. Lots of names have been linked to the Yankees at third. Now, Sports Illustrated's Karl Rasmussen is the latest to suggest New York should target St. Louis Cardinals' 10-time Gold Glover Nolan Arenado.

7/13/25 Royals Could Target Recently Released Yankees Veteran To Boost Lineup. The Kansas City Royals have been playing better baseball as of late, though they recently lost two excruciating games to the New York Mets and are now back in third place in the American League Central. According to Jon Morosi of MLB Network, multiple teams are showing interest in veteran infielder DJ LeMahieu, who the New York Yankees recently cut ties with. If Kansas City wants a bat, LeMahieu is available and is somebody that they could take a look at.

7/12/25 Astros reportedly have no plans to sign former Yankees veteran. On Wednesday, the New York Yankees released veteran infielder DJ LeMahieu, who had been reduced to a bench role and struggling at the plate over the last couple of seasons. With the 2025 MLB season now at the midway point, teams will be looking for depth to compensate for injuries or to give certain players a day off. As a result, LeMahieu should be able to latch onto a team to finish the season. TV host and former FOX Sports Houston's Will Kunkel reported on Saturday, citing a source, that the Astros are not pursuing the former Yankees infielder.

7/12/25 Could Rockies Bring Back Their Fan Favorite Who Got Away?. DJ LeMahieu, who became a standout infielder during his time in the Mile High City, was outright released by the New York Yankees after his injuries and declining performance caused the AL contenders to pull the plug on his tenure. It's not clear what's next for the two-time batting champion. It's hard to put anything past this franchise, especially when it comes to the current reality of their situation where they are well on their way to setting Major League Baseball history with the most losses in a single regular season of all time. Perhaps the ownership group views bringing back their past fan favorite as something that extends an olive branch to the fanbase.

7/10/25 Yankees cut 2-time batting champ DJ LeMahieu with nearly $22 million left on contract. DJ LeMahieu has been cut by the New York Yankees with almost $22 million remaining on his contract, one day after the two-time batting champion got demoted to the bench. LeMahieu, who turns 37 on Sunday, was designated for assignment and fellow infielder Jorbit Vivas was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The Yankees then released LeMahieu on Thursday. A three-time All-Star, LeMahieu was batting .266 with two homers, 12 RBIs and a .674 OPS. He made his season debut May 13 after recovering from a left calf strain.

7/10/25 Yankees Mean Business with DJ LeMahieu Move. The New York Yankees shocked the world of baseball this afternoon when they announced the decision to designate infielder DJ LeMahieu for assignment. The decision came after LaMahieu was benched — a decision he was very unhappy with, according to reports — in favor of moving Jazz Chisholm Jr. back to second. As the trade deadline approaches, this decision makes one thing abundantly clear: the Yankees are not playing around. Utility man and typical third baseman Oswaldo Cabrera is out for possibly the entire season after suffering a left ankle fracture in May. While New York had been playing Chisholm at third, he's really best at second base, evidenced by his performance in Tuesday night's dominant 10-3 victory against the Seattle Mariners.
