7/23/25 | Astros-Marlins trade idea sends former Cy Young winner to Houston. The Houston Astros have found a way to stay atop the American League West despite dealing with numerous injuries. At 59-42, the Astros hold a five-game lead over the Seattle Mariners for first place in the AL West and have won three games in a row. In order to keep winning, the Astros should look to acquire a quality starting pitcher at the trade deadline. Hunter Brown and Framber Valdez have been excellent, but starting pitching is one of Houston's top needs. Source: https://www.sportingnews.com/ca/mlb/houston-astros... |

7/20/25 | Astros, Mariners send out All-Star pitchers in AL West battle. Games just mean more after the All-Star break. After losing Friday night in the opener of a three-game series in Seattle, the Houston Astros altered their pitching rotation to send All-Star Hunter Brown (9-4, 2.43 ERA) to the mound Sunday afternoon. On Saturday, the Mariners announced they'd start their own All-Star right-hander, Bryan Woo (8-4, 2.75), as they go for a sweep of the American League West-leading Astros. Houston's division lead is down to three games after Seattle rookie Cole Young singled with one out in the bottom of the 11th inning to give the Mariners a 7-6 victory Saturday. 7/18/25 | Astros predicted to trade for 3.34 ERA Diamondbacks righty starter. While the Houston Astros are in the market for a left-handed bat, and also looking for upgrades at left field and second base, there's another area of the roster that is a sneaky big need. With Hunter Brown and Framber Valdez, the Astros don't need an ace, but they do have a clear need for a strong number-three starter. With postseason series going at least three games, the Astros need another strong starter to feel comfortable in the postseason. Chandler Rome of The Athletic predicts that the Astros and Dana Brown will make such a move. Source: https://www.sportingnews.com/us/mlb/houston-astros... |
7/17/25 | Astros Slugger Yordan Alvarez Will Be Key for Franchise in Second Half. The Houston Astros are at the All-Star break with the best record in the American League West and exceeding expectations. After an offseason in which they lost two of their best players, the Astros have once again been able to find a way to be one of the best teams in the AL. For the last decade, Houston has arguably been the team to beat in the league. Houston has been led by their dynamic duo in the starting rotation with both Hunter Brown and Framber Valdez having great campaigns. Source: https://www.si.com/mlb/astros/news/astros-slugger-... |
7/16/25 | Astros' general manager Dana Brown has lofty expectations for injured starters. The Houston Astros have a strange situation to deal with this season. While Hunter Brown and Framber Valdez have been incredible atop the rotation, the rest of the group has major question marks. Cristian Javier, Luis Garcia, Spencer Arrighetti, and J.P. France are all working their way back from injury. Ryan Gusto, Brandon Walker are all at the start of their MLB careers, and pitching meaningful innings. 7/15/25 | Astros projected to rival Cardinals, Yankees for Pirates' 'innings-eater'. Hunter Brown and Framber Valdez are leading the Houston Astros' starting rotation, but with the MLB trade deadline nearing, the organization could look to add another starter to solidify the group. The Astros might not be in the market for a big-name starter like Sandy Alcántara and could be eyeing a reliable veteran arm to slot in the middle of the rotation while eating innings to help keep their bullpen fresh down the stretch. On Monday's “MLB Show,” Bleacher Report's Tyler Ward believes Pittsburgh Pirates veteran starter Andrew Heaney will be a name that many teams, like the Astros, will be keen on. 7/10/25 | Reigning Cy Young runner-up named "best match" for surging Astros. In a Major League Baseball season defined by great starting pitching, the Houston Astros might have the best one-two combination in the game in Hunter Brown and Framber Valdez. After breaking out in 2024, the 26-year-old Brown has taken his game to another level this year, emerging as a true Cy Young Award contender with a 2.21 ERA and a terrific 129/32 strikeout-to-walk ratio. The 31-year-old Valdez, meanwhile, has continued to be one of the most consistent starters in baseball, turning in his fifth straight season with an ERA below 3.50 and once again ranking near the top of the leaderboard in ground ball rate. The combination of Valdez and Brown has helped the Astros vault to the top of the American League West, but the rest of the rotation has been a mixed bag. 7/09/25 | Guardians' bats suddenly erupt against elite pitchers Hunter Brown and Josh Hader, erasing thoughts of 10-game slide. Just ask the Cleveland Guardians, who after enduring a soul-crushing 10-game losing streak with an offense that looked completely lost, suddenly rediscovered their hitting stroke against two of baseball's most dominant pitchers. The Guardians' offensive resurgence in Houston wasn't just unexpected – it was historically significant. Cleveland managed to tag Astros starter Hunter Brown for six runs and then, remarkably, scored three earned runs against elite closer Josh Hader – feats no other team has accomplished against either pitcher this season. 7/02/25 | Astros keep winning despite injuries, seek series victory vs. Rockies. The Houston Astros are getting unhappy injury updates on a daily basis, but it hasn't stopped them from winning. Houston built on its impressive 19-win June with a 6-5 victory against the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday night in Denver in the opener of a three-game series. The Astros will try to make it two straight against the Rockies on Wednesday night when they send right-hander Hunter Brown (8-3, 1.74 ERA) to the mound against Colorado left-hander Austin Gomber (0-1, 6.14). 6/30/25 | Astros trade pitch adds breakout slugger for postseason push. The club has seized control of the American League West by winning 24 of their last 33 games, building a 6.5 game lead over the second-place Seattle Mariners. 26-year-old Hunter Brown has emerged as a legitimate Cy Young candidate with a Major-League-Baseball-leading 1.78 ERA, forming a fearsome 1-2 punch with rotation stalwart Framber Valdez. The bullpen, meanwhile, leads the American League with a 3.31 ERA, as closer Josh Hader and set-up man Brayan Abreu have been downright unhittable at the end of games. 6/30/25 | Yankees Ace Snubbed in Latest Cy Young Rankings. The New York Yankees have not one, but two, American League Cy Young Award candidates this season. In his midseason awards preview, the New York Post's Joel Sherman listed Houston Astros ace Hunter Brown as the leading candidate for the AL Cy Young Award. "Brown led not just the AL but the majors in ERA, batting average against and strikeout percentage," Sherman wrote. Source: https://www.si.com/mlb/yankees/news/new-york-yanke... |
6/28/25 | Houston Astros Star Hunter Brown Best Pitcher in Majors After These Changes. Houston Astros pitcher Hunter Brown picked the right year to break out as one of the very best pitchers in MLB. Co-ace Framber Valdez is set to test the free agent market this winter, and if history is any guide, he'll find a better offer somewhere other than Houston. Should that happen, the Astros would still have a top-of-the-rotation arm on the roster to build their pitching staff around in Brown. This result was the hope as Brown moved up the ranks as one of the top prospects in the sport, but an up-and-down start to his MLB career called his ceiling into question a bit. 6/27/25 | Game 81 - Phils Nearly Suffer Shutout Sweep, Exit Houston in 2nd Place. One Sentence Summary: Hunter Brown baffled Phillies' batters and the Astros nearly pulled off a shutout sweep in this deflating 2-1 loss. This game marked the mathematical half-way point of the season, and the only thing I'm confident about is the Phillies' starting pitching. Bryce Harper may return to the line-up as soon as Monday, but he'll be missing again for the upcoming weekend series against the Braves. What Happened: Following Ranger Suarez and Zack Wheeler, Cristopher Sanchez was the latest Phillies pitcher to throw a gem and get rewarded with a no-decision.
