7/31/25 Royals Could Target $2.1 Million Outfielder From Twins To Boost Lineup. The Kansas City Royals looked like surefire sellers at the trade deadline earlier this month. Late on Saturday, they acquired slugger Randal Grichuk from the Arizona Diamondbacks to boost their lineup. While they appear to have shifted their focus to pitching with several rotation arms on the shelf, there are still ways they can upgrade their offense. The pitching staff has carried its weight this season, but the offense has let them down for much of the year.

7/31/25 Royals Insider Reveals KC's Changing Goals As Trade Deadline Arrives. Trade deadline day is one of the most exciting days not only in Major League Baseball, but the entire professional sports calendar. The Royals are down, but they're far from out. At 54-55, they sit just three games out of a potential Wild Card spot, and they've already proven by trading for Randal Grichuk and extending Seth Lugo that selling isn't an option they're considering. On Thursday, Anne Rogers of MLB.com revealed that the Royals now seek pitching more than hitting thanks in large part to the Kris Bubic injury, though their low-powered offense could certainly still use another big bat.

7/29/25 Is Royals 28-Year-Old Starter 'In Danger' With Trade Deadline Approaching?. The Kansas City Royals are a confusing team in 2025, but that's largely because they can't develop any consistency on the field. Coming off a playoff berth in 2024, the Royals had high hopes of returning to October. Already, the Royals have made two outfield-related trade acquisitions, bringing in left fielder Randal Grichuk and utility man Adam Frazier. Could a new center fielder be next?

7/29/25 Royals acquire former Cardinal outfielder Randal Grichuk in deal with the Diamondbacks. The Kansas City Royals acquired veteran outfielder Randal Grichuk from the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday, signaling that the franchise is willing to be a buyer to stay in the playoff hunt. The D-backs added right-hander Andrew Hoffmann, who has made three appearances for the Royals this season out of the bullpen. The 33-year-old Grichuk has played the past 1 1/2 seasons for the D-backs, with the club using his right-handed bat mostly against left-handed pitching.

7/28/25 Royals Buying Or Selling? Writer Predicts KC's Strategy After Recent Surprises. The Kansas City Royals were a tough trade deadline team to project all along, but their moves so far were still fairly major surprises. Trading for rental outfielder Randal Grichuk was intriguing, considering the Royals are still below .500. Now that the Royals have made one acquisition and taken their biggest trade chip off the market, is it reasonable to call them "buyers" between now and Thursday's deadline? On Monday, Mike Axisa of CBS Sports listed the Royals as "somewhere in the middle" on the spectrum of buyers and sellers in a trade deadline preview. And Axisa also attempted to predict the Royals' strategy the rest of the way.

Rumored Cubs trade deadline target hits the IL with a shoulder issue Chicago will have to look elsewhere for pitching reinforcements before Thursday's trade deadline. By Jake Misener | Share on Facebook Share on X Copy Article Ed Zurga/GettyImages Share on Facebook Share on X Share on Reddit Copy Article It was an eventful weekend for the Kansas City Royals - to put it mildly. In a span of 24 hours, the team acquired Randal Grichuk from the Arizona Diamondbacks, placed rookie Jac Caglione on the IL, signed reigning AL Cy Young Award runner-up Seth Lugo to a contract extension and lost left-hander Kris Bubic to a rotator cuff injury that led to him hitting the 15-day IL. 7/27/25 Diamondbacks send Randal Grichuk to Royals in latest deadline deal. After sending veteran outfielder Randal Grichuk to the Kansas City Royals in exchange for a relief prospect on Saturday night, July 26, the Diamondbacks have made two deals in the span of three days, moves that appear to clearly plant them in the seller's camp ahead of next week's trade deadline. “That's a very fair way to frame it.”

7/01/25 Giants disastrous showing vs. Diamondbacks highlights brutal trend. The San Francisco Giants are spiraling at the worst possible time, and Tuesday night's 8-2 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks was just another punch to the gut in a brutal stretch. The D-backs launched four home runs — including back-to-back blasts from Randal Grichuk and James McCann — while Zac Gallen dominated on the mound in what felt like a statement win for Arizona and a red flag for San Francisco. After jumping out to a 2-0 lead behind a solo homer from Willy Adames and a Patrick Bailey groundout that scored Daniel Johnson, the Giants offense flatlined again.

4/29/25 Diamondbacks robbed of hit after hit by Mets defense. Arizona Diamondbacks Randal Grichuk, Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and Eugenio Suarez smoked three baseballs over 100 mph in spots where at least two must've fallen or gotten through, right? Instead, the New York Mets' defense executed three straight highlight plays to gift David Peterson an unlikely 1-2-3 fourth frame. New York led 7-0 at the time, and three straight D-backs hits would have at least cut into that lead and gotten something going. The Mets defeated the Diamondbacks 8-3 to open a three-game series at Citi Field.

3/06/25 Diamondbacks' Randal Grichuk Reveals His Turning Point of 2024. Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Randal Grichuk stepped into the box against the Cleveland Guardians in the second game of a doubleheader on August 7, 2024 with a bit of a different resolve in his mind. Then came the pitch from Guardians' right-hander Nick Sandlin — a 1-1 splitter down and inside. Grichuk quickly turned on the ball and crushed it, 106 MPH off the bat to left field to extend Arizona's lead to 5-3. From that point forward, Grichuk began to morph into a bona fide weapon for the Diamondbacks.

2/10/25 Diamondbacks roster projection: 2025 spring training begins. The Arizona Diamondbacks have time to figure out what exactly they'll look like on Opening Day from the roster construction to the batting order, but baseball is upon us. Pitchers and catchers report on Wednesday, and last year the D-backs made two notable moves after camp began. A week into spring training, they signed veteran outfielder Randal Grichuk, and after camp broke they shocked fans by agreeing to terms with starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery.

2/05/25 Is Randal Grichuk Poised to Pick Up Where He Left Off?. Continuing our series of Arizona Diamondbacks player reviews, recent signee Randal Grichuk is up. The projection below is a composite of ZiPS and Steamer projections, prorated to our playing time projection. GM Mike Hazen confirmed to reporters that Grichuk is expected to have a similar role as last year when he played in the outfield and at DH along with pinch-hitting. Although he played in the outfield for 60% of his plate appearances, it could become closer to 50-50 between the outfield and DH thanks to the presence of Alek Thomas and Jake McCarthy being healthy and on the roster.
