6/14/25 Austin Hedges returns to Cleveland Guardians after 5th concussion of his MLB career. Hedges visited a specialist in Pittsburgh before joining the Guardians in Seattle, one whom he had worked with during his first stint in Cleveland. “They're all very similar, at least my version of them," Hedges said.

6/13/25 Guardians' Austin Hedges activated from 7-day injured list. The Cleveland Guardians activated catcher Austin Hedges from the 7-day injured list prior to Friday night's game against the Seattle Mariners. Hedges, 32, was placed on the list retroactive to last Thursday after he was struck on the helmet on a backswing by the New York Yankees' Jazz Chisholm Jr. during a game on Wednesday. It marked the fifth time Hedges — who is hitting .113 with three home runs and three RBIs this year— has been placed on the injured list because of a concussion across 11 MLB seasons. “They're all very similar, at least my version of them,” Hedges said.

4/18/25 Veteran backup catcher showcases defensive skill in loss to Orioles: Guardians breakfast today. Opposing base runners be warned: Do not sleep on Austin Hedges when he is behind the plate. The Guardians veteran backup catcher showed exactly why in Thursday's 6-2 loss to the Orioles. “I don't have the luxury of being able to take pitches off back there,” Hedges said. Hedges proved his value as a backstop by picking Ramon Urias off at third base in the third inning on a throw down to Gabriel Arias.

3/26/25 Guardians will struggle against a stacked AL Central in 2025, miss playoffs: Joe Noga. In the aftermath of losing Game 5 of the American League Championship series to the Yankees in October, Guardians veteran catcher Austin Hedges sounded like he was ready to run it back as soon as possible. “The job's not done,” Hedges said in his postgame remarks to reporters. With spring training officially in the rearview mirror, “next year” is finally now. The question is: how far will that roadmap take them against an AL Central Division loaded with contenders?

3/10/25 The most important .186 hitter in the majors? Why everybody loves Austin Hedges. It is 8 o'clock on a February morning in the Cleveland Guardians clubhouse, and Austin Hedges is, as he often is, shirtless, which always amused one of his managers, Terry Francona, because, as the 65-year-old skipper put it, "with his shirt off, he looks like me." Hedges is, as always, talking, teaching and laughing, as are his teammates, though it's hard to imagine a group ever laughing harder than after Game 1 of the 2023 World Series, when the Texas Rangers' Adolis Garcia hit a walk-off home run, while Hedges, in the hole at the time, celebrated wildly -- inspiring an Instagram meme with what Hedges might have been thinking at that moment: Great, I don't have to hit! "It was hilarious ... it wasn't very nice, but it was hilarious," Hedges said.

2/26/25 Seattle Mariners' Cal Raleigh Credits Unlikely Source For Helping Him Win Platinum Glove. Raleigh played in 153 games last year, most of them at catcher, and took home both the Gold and Platinum Glove awards in the American League. While his success can be attributed to good M's coaching and his own great talent and work ethic, Raleigh also got some help from an unlikely source: Cleveland Guardians backstop Austin Hedges. According to a recent story in The Athletic, Raleigh called Hedges after the 2023 season and the pair started working on things like pitch receiving.

12/08/24 Recent Guardians Trade Rumors Shouldn't Come As A Surprise. The Cleveland Guardians have made minimal moves so far this offseason. Yes, they've re-signed veteran catcher Austin Hedges and brought back Shane Bieber on a one-year deal. Now, two key members of the Guardians roster, Josh Naylor and Lane Thomas, are swirling around in trade rumors, while it's obvious Cleveland needs more major league bats in their lineup. On Thursday, Ken Rosenthal of The Atheltic reported that Cleveland is "open to trade offers" on both players as they head into their last season of team control.

11/07/24 AL Central champion Guardians bring back Hedges for 2025. Austin Hedges' contributions went well beyond being just a light-hitting backup catcher for the Guardians last season. The popular catcher agreed to a $4 million, one-year contract Wednesday to return to the AL Central champions, who credited Hedges' leadership as a major factor in the team's unexpected success in 2024. The Guardians took over first place in April and stayed there, going 92-69 and winning the AL Central under rookie manager Stephen Vogt. Cleveland beat Detroit in a tight Division Series before losing in five games to the New York Yankees in the American League Championship Series.

10/18/24 Guardians' Late Game 3 Heroics Prompt a Change in Tradition. After every win, the Cleveland Guardians dash from the dugout to the clubhouse, where their victory ceremony awaits. Their backup catcher, 32-year-old Austin Hedges, selects a player of the game, makes a short speech and presents him with a World Wrestling Entertainment–branded championship belt. “It's not democratic,” says reliever Eli Morgan. “It's all Hedges. It's an oligarchy? I don't know how that stuff works, but it's all on him. He picks really well.” The tradition dates to Opening Day this year, and every win—92 of them in the regular season, and now, after an epic American League Championship Series Game 3, four so far this October—follows the same script: Hedges selects the player,
