7/21/25 Mets' unsung hero provides 'key moment(s)' in win that snapped losing streak. The box score won't show it, but catcher Luis Torrens's swing in the ninth inning, a fielder's choice, delivered the game-winning run for the Mets on Sunday. With the game tied at two in the eighth inning and right fielder Juan Soto on third, Torrens lined a 102.7 mph one-hopper that was picked by the second baseman. Breaking for home on contact, Soto slid headfirst, beating the tag to put the Mets ahead 3-2. In Sunday's 3-2 win over Cincinnati, it wasn't just Torrens's bat that helped the Mets in victory.

Escarra as Austin Wells' primary backup, with Ben Rice filling in as well now that Giancarlo Stanton is back in the DH spot. Escarra impressed again

6/19/25 Former Seattle Mariners Catcher Goes Viral For Rough Play on Wednesday. Former Seattle Mariners catcher and popular figure Luis Torrens went viral on Wednesday night for making a quizzical play as a member of the New York Mets. Catching against the Atlanta Braves, Torrens went to retrieve a pitch that went just wide of him. The Mets lost the game 5-0. Baseball has many rules that fans don't actually know, but the players should know the rules at their positions, so that's a bad mistake from Torrens, who is an eight-year veteran of the San Diego Padres, Mariners, Chicago Cubs and Mets.
