7/27/25 Matchup of All-Stars, NL's top teams when Cubs, Brewers open series. It seems only appropriate that a three-game series between the teams with the two best records in the National League begins on Monday with a stellar pitching matchup. The Chicago Cubs will send All-Star left-hander Matthew Boyd (11-3, 2.20 ERA) to face the host Milwaukee Brewers, who will send All-Star right-handed rookie Jacob Misiorowski (4-1, 2.45) to the mound. The teams are tied atop of the NL Central with identical 62-43 records. Chicago took two of three from the Chicago White Sox over the weekend, while Milwaukee avoided a three-game sweep with a 3-2 win over the visiting Miami Marlins on Sunday.

7/25/25 3 reasons why Cubs' signing of Matthew Boyd was the steal of the offseason. 3 reasons why Cubs' signing of Matthew Boyd was the steal of the offseason Matthew Boyd has unexpectedly emerged as the Cubs' ace this year, making him an absolute steal By Rich Eberwein | Share on Facebook Share on X Copy Article Kansas City Royals v Chicago Cubs | Matt Dirksen/GettyImages Share on Facebook Share on X Share on Reddit Copy Article After the Chicago Cubs signed starting pitcher Matthew Boyd last offseason, many (myself included) were critical of the move. At the time, the Cubs needed another reliable innings-eater, and there were guys like Corbin Burnes and Max Fried on the market. 7/24/25 Jeff Passan drops clue that keeps Cubs' MacKenzie Gore trade hopes alive. This time of year, when ESPN's MLB insider speaks, we all stop and listen to what he says. Matthew Boyd has been a revelation in his first year with the team and Shota Imanaga hasn't missed a beat in his sophomore season, IL stint aside.

7/23/25 Matthew Boyd on Streak Matched by Only One Other Cubs Pitcher Since 1900. There has only been one other Chicago Cubs pitcher in the last 125 years who has been on the kind of streak that Matthew Boyd is on right now, and that was Jon Lester in 2016. In 10 straight outings, Boyd has gone at least five innings and has allowed two or fewer runs. According to Jesse Rogers of ESPN, only Lester's streak of 11 is longer. Lester spent six full seasons with the Cubs starting in 2015.

7/22/25 Cubs have called Royals ahead of trade deadline, seeking starting pitcher. The Chicago Cubs are in serious trouble if they don't acquire at least one quality starting pitcher at the trade deadline. Outside of All-Star Matthew Boyd and Shota Imanaga, the starting rotation is a mess. Sure, Colin Rea and rookie Cade Horton have looked solid for most of the season, but those guys can't be trusted to start a postseason game. Jameson Taillon was dealing for most of the season, then had two bad outings and landed on the injure list for the foreseeable future.
