8/01/25 | 49ers Radio Announcer Greg Papa Diagnosed With Cancer, Is 'Stepping Away' From Broadcasts for Now. The voice of the 49ers and former longtime voice of the Raiders Greg Papa announced Friday that he's being treated for cancer, and will not be calling 49ers games anytime soon, but hopes to return to the booth. When longtime Oakland Raiders radio announcer Greg Papa switched to being the San Francisco 49ers radio announcer in 2019 after the Raiders left town, we wondered if his signature “Touchdown, Rrrrraiders!” call would transfer as well to his new call, “Touchdown, San… Fran… Cisco!” And it certainly did, thanks to Papa's long-established authenticity, charm, and encyclopedic knowledge of sports. 7/31/25 | Former Raiders draft pick quietly calls it quits after missing entire 2024 season. The Oakland Raiders went to the playoffs during the 2016 NFL season on the back of an incredibly young and talented roster. MVP candidate Derek Carr was the obvious star, but skill position players drafted by the franchise like Amari Cooper and Latavius Murray were key cogs in the machine as well. Despite a 12-4 record and a campaign that never reached its full potential due to a broken leg sustained by Carr in Week 16, the team went through several changes during the offseason. The most disappointing of which was the loss of Murray, who signed with the Vikings in free agency. Source: https://justblogbaby.com/former-raiders-draft-pick... |
7/27/25 | How one player single-handedly cost the Raiders their most recent Super Bowl ring. The Oakland Raiders had been building a solid program under head coach Jon Gruden from 1998 to 2001. A strange series of events, however, led to Gruden being traded from Oakland to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before the 2002 NFL season. Gruden's replacement, Bill Callahan, was actually the one who got the Silver and Black over the hump. After two early postseason exits in 2000 and 2001 with Gruden, Callahan and the Raiders blew through the AFC playoffs in 2002 en route to an appearance in Super Bowl XXXVII. 7/22/25 | Should Amari Cooper and the Raiders Reunite?. The Las Vegas Raiders, then known as the Oakland Raiders, spent the fifth pick in the 2015 draft to bring in an explosive receiver named Amari Cooper. Why would the Raiders want to sign a 31-year-old Cooper who's well past his prime? Tre Tucker is expected to be their second-best option, but it isn't as if they're dead set on keeping Tucker around for the future either.
