7/31/25 | Astros Could Find Reliable Rotation Answer by Trading for Merrill Kelly. The Houston Astros have a few top starters in their rotation in both Framber Valdez and Hunter Brown, but they are looking for some depth as their consistency quickly falls after these two. Kiley McDaniel and Jeff Passan of ESPN continually update their Top 50 candidates for the trade deadline, which is Thursday. 7/30/25 | Former MLB Exec Reveals Astros' Stance on Cardinals Star Nolan Arenado. The Houston Astros' plans ahead of the MLB trade deadline are clear: they want to add a left-handed bat -- preferably an infielder -- and a starting pitcher who can slide in behind Framber Valdez and Hunter Brown to start postseason games. Ideally, the batter they acquire would be able to play third base, where the injury to Isaac Paredes has created a massive void. An All-Star for the second consecutive year, he has filled in admirably for Alex Bregman, who departed in free agency and signed a deal with the Boston Red Sox. 7/29/25 | Astros hunt for missing offense, home victory against Nationals. July 29 - Perhaps the greatest display of evidence showcasing the Houston Astros' offensive struggles came Monday in the opener of a three-game home interleague series against the Washington Nationals. Four Houston pitchers -- starter Framber Valdez and relievers Bryan King, Bryan Abreu and Josh Hader -- combined for 19 strikeouts. However, the Astros managed only four hits in a 2-1 loss to the Nationals, their sixth consecutive home loss and fifth straight defeat overall. Houston has just one win in its past 11 home games and has only eight runs during its current skid, including one run in each of the last three games.
