| 5/31/25 | What Diamondbacks need to see from Kevin Ginkel, Jordan Lawlar. The Arizona Diamondbacks probably never imagined they'd ever have to send trusted reliever Kevin Ginkel down again. A lot had to go wrong to option top prospect Jordan Lawlar less than three weeks after calling him up. The Diamondbacks have found themselves in a precarious position under .500 at the dawn of June, and sending out the struggling Ginkel and Lawlar gives two important members of the organization a chance to reset and return in better shape, whenever that may be. On what should have been a night of celebration and triumph, the Arizona Diamondbacks went down to another crushing defeat due to their depleted and ineffective bullpen. The Dodgers scored six runs in the ninth inning, erasing an 11-8 deficit to take game two of the series 14-11. Kevin Ginkel, working for the third time in four games, and a velocity drop to show for it, gave up four straight hits to allow the Dodgers to tie it up 11-11. The sidewinder was called upon to face Shohei Ohtani with two runners on base, and the Japanese superstar did the predictable, launching a mistake in the middle of the plate for a 426 foot, three-run homer. After starting the year without Kevin Ginkel and Kendall Graveman, who each looked to be high-leverage options for the club, several more setbacks began to pop up. It was announced on April 19 that back-end reliever and key southpaw A.J. Puk would be placed on the 15-day injured list with left elbow inflammation.
