HOUSTON -- - Zack Short hit a walk-off RBI single in the 11th inning after Christian Walker tied it with a sacrifice fly and the Houston Astros beat the Texas Rangers 5-4 on Saturday night. Short hit a 1-1 pitch to right field off Hoby Milner after Robert Garcia (1-5) walked two to load the bases.

(AP Photo/Ryan Sun) AP By Evan Woodbery | ewoodber@mlive.com Veteran utility infielder Zack Short is back in the big leagues. The Houston Astros selected Short's contract from Triple-A on Wednesday. Short, 30, is now playing for his fifth major-league team. He appeared at the MLB level for the New York Mets, Boston Red Sox, and Atlanta Braves in 2024. He was claimed off waivers by the Mets when the Tigers removed him from the roster following the 2023 season. Short made the Mets' Opening Day roster after a strong spring but played sparingly once the season began, going 1-for-9 and starting only three games. When the Mets designated him for assignment

7/02/25 Astros call up former Mets, Red Sox, Braves infielder amid injuries. One of the largest issues plaguing the Houston Astros is their injury bug. Despite leading the AL West, the Astros have seen multiple starters in the rotation and in the lineup go down with an injury. Amid all of their injuries, the Astros announced a roster move to add a journeyman infielder who's spent time with the Boston Red Sox, the New York Mets,  and the Atlanta Braves. Houston is selecting Zack Short and bringing him up to the Major Leagues, as Luis Guillorme is going on the injured list with a right hamstring strain.
