7/21/25 | REPORT: Brewers Seeking Surprising Trade for Marlins' Young Star. The Miami Marlins may not be aggressive sellers at the trade deadline, but that does not mean they won't still be moving some pieces before July 31. The Marlins probably won't be jettisoning a million and one players like they did last summer, but if teams call with significant interest, the frugal Fish will obviously listen. Apparently, the Milwaukee Brewers have contacted Miami about two of its infielders: Otto Lopez and Xavier Edwards, via Jim Bowden of The Athletic. Lopez does not come as much of a surprise. 7/19/25 | Otto Lopez does heavy lifting in Marlins win over Royals. Shortstop Otto Lopez drove in all three runs as the host Miami Marlins won again, defeating the Kansas City Royals, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon. Lopez's two-run double in the eighth inning snapped a 1-1 score. Xavier Edwards added a triple, a double and two runs scored as the Marlins improved to 21-10 over their past 31 games. Salvador Perez led the Royals with a homer, which tied the score 1-1 in the top of the eighth inning. Source: https://www.reuters.com/sports/baseball/otto-lopez... |
7/18/25 | Marlins Could Have Potential Trade Deadline Move With Brewers. The Miami Marlins will likely be open for business before the MLB trade deadline, and the Milwaukee Brewers may be frustrated enough with one player to place a call to South Beach about one budding Marlins star in particular: Otto Lopez. Because the Brewers are clearly perturbed by the regression of second-year shortstop Joey Ortiz, who is slashing just .210/.268/.302 this season, so much so that manager Pat Murphy recently said he was "pissed" with Ortiz. Milwaukee is neck and neck with the Chicago Cubs in the NL Central, so even though Ortiz was once a top prospect, it may be time for the Brewers to consider cutting the cord. 7/10/25 | Arizona Diamondbacks reflect on struggles at Chase Field as All-Star break nears. The Arizona Diamondbacks swung and missed on their latest homestand. This unsteady ride at Chase Field means finding success when they finally returns home July 18 could be key to staying in the postseason hunt. The Diamondbacks sit 4 1/2 game outside of the National League wild card, and a big reason is a sweep by the Marlins to open their homestand. Otto Lopez dominated in the first game with three hits and three RBIs, leading the Marlins to their fifth straight win. Source: https://cronkitenews.azpbs.org/2025/07/10/all-star... |
6/30/25 | Miami Marlins Budding Star Makes Incredible Franchise History. The Miami Marlins have won their last seven games, which is the longest winning streak in MLB. The key behind this stretch has been Miami's offense, which has somehow looked unstoppable over the last week. One player who has really shone over this recent stretch is Otto Lopez, and the budding star just made some incredible franchise history. Per Miami Marlins Communications, Lopez is the first player in team history to score 10 or more runs, record 13 or more hits, and drive in 15 or more runs in a seven-game span.
