7/03/25 Red Sox president: Poor fundamentals 'a systemic thing for a long time'. With a 3-0 lead after six innings, the Red Sox had a chance to sweep the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday night at Fenway Park. Greg Weissert allowed a leadoff single to open the seventh and then got a chopper hit to Abraham Toro. It would have been a tough double play ball, but the Red Sox didn't record a single out because of Toro's error. The Reds then loaded the bases on a walk, Christian Encarnacion-Strand hit a grand slam and Cincinnati added an insurance run to make it 5-3.

7/02/25 Red Sox's Alex Cora Drops Truth Bomb After Latest Disaster. The Red Sox really could have used a victory on Wednesday. Boston was not only on the precipice of completing a series sweep of the Cincinnati Reds, but could have brought itself back to .500 on the season before beginning a six-game stretch with the lowly Washington Nationals and Colorado Rockies. Greg Weissert gave up a go-ahead grand slam, Romy Gonzalez ran into an out on the bases (and likely would have scored the game-tying run if he hadn't), Trevor Story and Abraham Toro committed errors that allowed the visitors to extend their lead late aaaaaaaaaaand they lost the capper to an unofficial doubleheader. Red Sox manager Alex Cora wasn't too happy with the result, and dropped a truth bomb on his team in his postgame media availability.

6/18/25 Red Sox reliever with 'robust arsenal' comes up 'huge' again late in game. Righty Greg Weissert has taken over as the Red Sox' setup man/backup closer with Justin Slaten (right shoulder inflammation) sidelined. Weissert has six holds and three saves in 11 outings since Boston placed Slaten on the IL June 1 (retroactive to May 29). “He's been huge,” Garrett Crochet said. Closer Aroldis Chapman pitched the eighth against Seattle's No. 1-3 hitters, which manager Alex Cora deemed a more high-leverage spot.

6/14/25 Why Red Sox turned to Greg Weissert (and not Aroldis Chapman) for save Saturday vs. Yankees. With the Red Sox leading, 4-2, entering the top of the ninth inning Saturday, the bullpen doors swung open and the closer ran onto the field. It was Greg Weissert, on for a chance at his third career save with Paul Goldschmidt, Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Anthony Volpe due up. It wasn't that manager Alex Cora liked the right-handed Weissert over the left-handed Chapman in that spot.
