During the final game of their three-game series in Cleveland at the end of May, Kiké Hernandez raced home from third base to score on a wild pitch by Guardians left-hander Tim Herrin. As Hernandez dove for home plate on the seventh-inning play, Herrin tried to reach for a throw from the catcher and tumbled onto Hernandez, landing on Hernandez's left elbow. Tim Herrin had never in his career stepped in for an injured pitcher with no time to warm up in the bullpen before he took the mound in relief of teammate Paul Sewald last week against Minnesota. Now, the Guardians lefty has done so twice after entering Sunday's win against Toronto when Tanner Bibee suffered cramps in both of his legs while warming up before the sixth inning.
