7/19/25 Nationals sign No. 1 overall pick Eli Willits to $8.2 million bonus. The Washington Nationals signed first overall draft pick Eli Willits to an $8.2 million bonus on Saturday. The bonus amount is a record for a high-school player. The old mark was the $8.19 million Jackson Holliday received from the Baltimore Orioles in 2022. Willits, a shortstop who doesn't turn 18 until December, doesn't plan on it taking long to reach the majors. “I've set a goal to be in the big leagues by the time I'm 20, and that's something I'm really excited to do,” Willits said during a news conference. “Hopefully, I get out there and start playing well and that can be something I can accomplish in the next few years.” Willits took batting practice prior to the Nationals' Saturday game

7/08/25 Jackson Holliday crushes big homer vs. Mets before Orioles implode. The 2024 Detroit Tigers give hope to all seemingly moribund ballclubs, but the Baltimore Orioles (40-50) are heading closer towards a colossally disappointing season. Jackson Holliday has yet to meet the lofty expectations that come with being a former No. 1 overall pick, but he is starting to find his MLB bearing in his age-21 season. Holliday recorded an RBI single to put the O's on the scoreboard in the third inning and later helped them build a 6-2 lead in the seventh after smashing a 406-foot solo home run. A comfortable advantage evaporated in Camden Yards, as Bryan Baker surrendered four runs on four hits.
