7/06/25 | Washington Nationals Set for Japanese Star's MLB Debut, Option Reliever. The Washington Nationals made the official move on Sunday and will start Shinnosuke Ogasawara in their series finale with the Boston Red Sox. The Nationals announced via their communications account on X (formerly Twitter) Ogasawara was officially recalled from Triple-A Rochester as they optioned right-handed pitcher Ryan Loutos to Rochester. It's the first Major League start for the 27-year-old Ogasawara, who drew plenty of buzz with the Nationals as their first Japanese player signed straight out of Asia. 6/18/25 | Nationals' Historic Offseason Signing Will Make Rehab Appearance at High-A. The Washington Nationals have had a tough go of things throughout the 2025 season, and while they have a pipeline of promising prospects to rely on, they will take time to develop as well. While it is not exactly a sustainable development process, it has worked in some cases, and now the team at least has a few core pieces to build around. One of their more notable offseason signings came in the form of Shinnosuke Ogasawara, the first Japanese-born player the Nationals had ever signed. Thankfully, he was able to make his first rehab start on June 14 with the FCL Nationals, throwing for two innings and picking up two strikeouts while only allowing one hit. 6/15/25 | Washington Nationals' Shinnosuke Ogasawara Dominates in Injury Rehab Start. The long road back to Triple-A started for Washington Nationals pitcher Shinnosuke Ogasawara on Saturday. Ogasawara began a rehab assignment in the Florida Complex League, where he started a game for the FCL Nationals against the FCL Marlins, which went 13 innings and saw the Nats win, 7-6.
