8/02/25 Red Sox rookie Marcelo Mayer to receive shot to try to 'get him back'. Red Sox rookie Marcelo Mayer will receive an anti-inflammation injection Saturday for his sprained right wrist in an attempt “to get him back,” manager Alex Cora said. The Red Sox placed the 22-year-old on the injured list July 25 after he left Boston's previous game with wrist discomfort. “He really wants to get back and this is the route,” Cora said before Saturday's game against the Astros at Fenway Park. Cora said this is the “quickest” route to a return if it works.

7/29/25 Hot-hitting Vaughn Grissom says “I don't really expect much more opportunity here”. When Marcelo Mayer hit the injured list on July 25, the Red Sox had a number of choices in Worcester to take his roster spot. 7/28/25 Red Sox Dominate Updated Baseball America Top 100 Prospects Rankings. Baseball America has updated its top 100 prospects rankings following the 2025 MLB Draft, and it's loaded with Boston Red Sox players. Despite promoting top prospects Marcelo Mayer and Roman Anthony to the Major Leagues this year and trading Kyle Teel for Garrett Crochet last winter, the Red Sox still boast one of the best farm systems in baseball.

7/27/25 Yankees To Place MVP Candidate Aaron Judge on Injured List. The Boston Red Sox have dealt with their fair share of injuries this season, and that trend continued on Friday when rookie infielder Marcelo Mayer was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right wrist strain. Mayer's injury comes at a challenging time with Major League Baseball's trade deadline less than a week away, and Red Sox manager Alex Cora will once again try to find the right infield mix while that talented rookie is sidelined. While Mayer's absence certainly marks another setback for the Red Sox's recently slumping offense, there's an even bigger concern taking place in The Bronx following news that New York Yankees outfielder and American League MVP candidate Aaron Judge is dealing with a potentially serious elbow injury.

7/26/25 Red Sox Aren't Getting Standout Back Anytime Soon. The Boston Red Sox got some bad news in the infield. Rookie infielder Marcelo Mayer has gotten a lot of time at second base and third base. Since Alex Bregman returned, Mayer has gotten most of his action at second base while also filling in as the Red Sox worked Bregman back slowly. MassLive.com's Christopher Smith shared the lastest update on Mayer from Red Sox manager Alex Cora on Saturday noted that he's "not gonna play soon."
