7/29/25 | Pittsburgh Pirates Former MVP Ties Hall of Famer on Historic List. The Pittsburgh Pirates beat the San Francisco Giants 6-5 on Monday night at Oracle Park, improving to 45-62 on the season. Andrew McCutchen went 1-for-5 with a home run in the win, also scoring a run and driving in two. The home run was his 10th of the year and tied him with Hall of Famer Willie McCovey on a historic list. 7/28/25 | Andrew McCutchen's Late HR Pushes Pirates Past Giants. Andrew McCutchen added another great moment onto his Pittsburgh Pirates career as he hit a late home run in the 6-4 win over the San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park. The Pirates make it three straight wins, taking the last two games vs. the Arizona Diamondbacks at PNC Park, July 26-27, and six wins in the past seven games, with a sweep of the Detroit Tigers at home, July 21-23. Pittsburgh improves to 45-62 overall and 14-37 on the road, while San Francisco drops to 54-53 overall and 28-24 at home. Second baseman Nick Gonzales took a first pitch changeup from Giants left-handed starting pitcher Carson Whisenhunt and sent it 390 feet into the left field seats, putting the Pirates up 1-0 on the solo home run in the top of the first inning. The Pittsburgh Pirates battled back from an early deficit, but still missed out on a victory, losing 4-3 to the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium. This loss makes it a sweep vs. the Royals, as they lost 9-3 on July 7 and also 4-3 on July 8. This extends the Pirates' losing streak to six games, as they suffered a sweep vs. the Seattle Mariners at T-Mobile Park, July 4-6, their second longest losing streak of the season. 7/01/25 | Pirates' Legend Moves Up Another Franchise Leaderboard. PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Pirates all-time great Andrew McCutchen has had a season of broken records within the franchise. While his single in the bottom of the first inning against the Mets on June 28 didn't make any headlines, it helped McCutchen move up another leaderboard in Pirates' history. That single marked his 2,896 total base with the Pirates, moving him past Hall of Fame outfielder Lloyd Waner (1927-41) at 2,895 total bases for seventh spot in franchise history. Total bases measure how many bases a player gets per hit. A single is one base, a double is two bases, a triple is three bases and a home run is four bases.
