3/24/26 1:31 PM - [Last Word on Sports] - Atlanta Braves Claim Intriguing Arm off Waivers From the Yankees. The Atlanta Braves have had countless injuries to the pitching staff this offseason. Right-hander was the latest to go down with an oblique strain on Monday. Given their injury situation, the Braves did add some depth by claiming right-hander off waivers from the New York Yankees. To make room for Bido on the 40-man roster, the Braves transferred left-hander to the 60-day injured list. In seven games with the Yankees, Bido had a 1.29 ERA and struck out seven in seven innings. The today claimed RHP Osvaldo Bido off waivers from the New York Yankees, and placed LHP Joey Wentz on the 60-day injured list with a right knee ACL tear. — Atlanta Braves (@Braves) Osvaldo Bido Will Help Stabilize the Atlanta Braves’ Rotation Bido, 30, is a native of the Dominican Republic and has spent parts of three seasons in the Major Leagues. In the past two seasons, Bido appeared in 42 games (19 starts) for the Athletics. Posting a 3.41 ERA in 2024 and a 5.87 ERA in 2025. Bido originally debuted with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2023, posting a 5.86 ERA in 50.2 innings. Since Bido has starting experience and without Strider, Bido can expect to eat some innings in the rotation. Rookie right-hander is an option to start, but he will work out of the bullpen instead. Left-hander and former Cy Young Award winner will start on Opening Day for the Braves. The Braves will open a three-game series with the Kansas City Royals on March 27. Right-hander will start Game 2 for the Braves, with manager not yet announcing the rest of the rotation. Right-hander will likely start Game 3, with Bido and right-hander pitching against his former club, the Athletics (March 30 – April 1). Strider, hopefully, won’t miss too much time with the oblique strain. Out of minor league options, Bido’s time with the Braves however could be short if he doesn’t perform.
