7/19/24 1:41 PM - Red Sox pitcher suffers setback during rehab assignment. The Boston Red Sox have had their fair share of injuries this year especially to their pitching staff this season with guys like Garrett Whitlock and Lucas Giolito missing the rest of the season and others missing time periodically. Chris Bassitt (P - TOR)
7/19/24 1:32 PM - MLB rumors: Blue Jays starter joins Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette as trade candidate. It has been a disappointing season for the Toronto Blue Jays. Both players are set to enter free agency after the 2025 season and trading them now would net a quality return for Toronto. According to Jon Morosi of MLB Network, starting pitcher Chris Bassitt is also a player to keep an eye on. Morosi notes that a “strong contingent” of scouts will attend Friday night's Blue Jays game against the Detroit Tigers to watch Bassitt and Jack Flaherty.

() Kansas City opted to keep the franchise icon. by: Patrick Andres Posted: Jul 19, 2024 / 12:03 PM CDT Updated: Jul 19, 2024 / 12:03 PM CDT SHARE The surprise turnaround of the Kansas City Royals has been one of baseball's most compelling storylines this season. In 2023, the Royals went 56-106 to tie an 18-year-old franchise record for lowest winning percentage. Now, Kansas City is 52-45 and firmly in playoff contention. For that, the Royals have to thank (among others) veteran catcher Salvador Perez. The consistent performer has slashed a sterling .282/.343/.477 this season, hitting 17 home runs and driving in 62 runs. Friday morning, however, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported that Perez's

Not just because his large fan club was feverishly watching in the stadium seats, but rather his first at-bat against the Cleveland Guardians was a significantly loud out –– a ball crushed an estimated 390 feet that Guardians left fielder Steven Kwawn robbed at the wall, nixing Schuemann's potential first big league hit in the second inning.

7/19/24 5:40 AM - Three storylines to follow as A's enter last stretch in Oakland. The All-Star Break provided the A's — and their fans — with some much-needed good vibes. Luis Morales, the team's top pitching prospect, struck out two batters in the Futures Game, then Mason Miller carried the torch by throwing the hardest-recorded ball in All-Star Game history and striking out Shohei Ohtani. The Oakland A's, as the baseball world has known them for roughly the last five-and-a-half decades, have just 64 games remaining — 34 of which will be at the Coliseum. Here are several storylines worth watching over the next several weeks before the A's play their final game at the Coliseum on Sept. 26 and finish the 2024 season three days later in Seattle.

With the MLB trade deadline rapidly approaching, many are wondering if the Red Sox will commit to this group and add talent to help them make a run later in the year. Kansas City Royals right-hander Michael Wacha is hoping the momentum he built ahead of the All-Star break carries over to the second half of the season. Wacha went 5-2 with a 2.61 ERA in his final nine starts before the hiatus, and he will look to pick up right where he left off when Kansas City opens a three-game series with the visiting Chicago White Sox on Friday night. Despite his strong finish to the first half, Wacha had a bit of a sour taste in his mouth during the break. Zack Gelof (2B - OAK)
7/18/24 5:06 PM - [NBC Sports Bay Area] - Report: A's calling up top 2023 draft pick, No. 1 prospect Wilson. Athletics has conquered minor league baseball in a short span. Now the will try his hand at MLB. The A’s will call up Wilson, 22, to begin the second half of the 2024 season, MLB.com’s Martin Gallegos reported Thursday, citing a source. Taken with the No. 6 overall draft pick last summer, Wilson has rocketed through the A’s minor league system. After playing three games with the A’s Rookie Level team to begin his professional career last year, Wilson was sent to High-A Lansing, where he hit .318.378/.455 in 23 games. The A’s challenged the Grand Canyon University product by starting him at Double-A Midland to begin the 2024 season. He needed just 22 games to show he was ready for more, as he hit .455/.473/.705 with 13 doubles, three homers and 19 RBI. Wilson barely cooled off as he made the move to Triple-A Las Vegas. In 19 games with the Aviators, he hit .398/.444/.639 with eight doubles, four homers and 12 RBI. In the end, it took Wilson only 72 minor-league games to earn his first MLB call-up. Now the A’s will see if that success can carry over the highest level. If everything goes according to the A’s plan, Wilson will form a cornerstone middle infield with second baseman Zack Gelof for the next few years. Wilson and Gelof, along with fellow former top prospects Tyler Soderstrom and Lawrence Butler, could become the nucleus for the next great A’s team. Gerrit Cole (P - NYY)
7/18/24 5:06 AM - Gerrit Cole, Yankees look to reboot season vs. Rays. Gerrit Cole's return from elbow inflammation in mid-June coincided with his New York Yankees' slide out of first place in the American League East amid some of their worst struggles of the season. As the Yankees look to recapture their early-season form, they'll hand the ball to Cole for their first game after the All-Star break when they host the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday in the opener of a four-game series. Cole (2-1, 5.40 ERA) made five starts after missing New York's first 75 games and experienced mixed results as he continued to build up his pitch count. Cole's most recent outing might have been his best so far as he allowed one run on five hits in six innings while getting seven strikeouts and throwing 106 pitches in last Friday's 4-1 win at Baltimore.

Giancarlo Stanton (DH/OF - NYY)
7/18/24 4:31 AM - Brian Cashman knew Yankees' problem this past offseason that went unfixed. The Yankees identified they had a problem and it went unfixed. Among the top priorities for Brian Cashman this past offseason was constructing his roster in a way where the availability of one of his sluggers wouldn't make or break the course of their season. “But I'm not gonna tell you [Giancarlo Stanton is] gonna play every game next year because he's not,” Cashman said at the GM meetings in November. The Bombers' front office openly expected the 34-year-old to land on the injured list at some point, however, their roster has performed as if they were blindsided by the hamstring injury that has kept Stanton sidelined since June 22.

Garrett Crochet (P - CHW)
7/18/24 4:26 AM - Yankees blockbuster trade would send top prospect for Cy Young favorite. With just under two weeks until the MLB trade deadline, the New York Yankees have a lot of work to do. Coming out of the All-Star break one game behind the Baltimore Orioles in the division and 11-19 over their last 30 games, making a run during the second half will require some big moves. Making a blockbuster trade for a top-tier pitcher like Garrett Crochet is on the table, but Jon Heyman of The Post suggested the Yankees potentially make another move for the current Cy Young favorite. Heyman suggested the one player the Yankees should trade top prospect Spencer Jones for is Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal.

AP By Max Goodman | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com The Yankees have scored more runs than any other team this season, but they enter the second half with real problems on offense. Juan Soto (OF - NYY)
7/18/24 2:36 AM - David Murphy: The argument against White Sox slugger Luis Robert Jr. is just as strong as the argument for him. It's OK to pay a Juan Soto or Mookie Betts price, as long as you are getting Juan Soto or Mookie Betts. The general managers that get themselves into trouble are the ones who trade can't-miss prospects for can-miss veterans. Dave Dombrowski can't afford to take that kind of risk. Which means he probably cannot afford Luis Robert Jr.
