9/09/25 6 Teams Listed As Potential Suitors for Astros Ace in Free Agency. The Houston Astros have their sights set on finishing the regular season strong since their lead in the AL West standings is now down to two games. While they aren't expected to be an active team based on them signing Christian Walker to a lucrative deal this past offseason and having acquired the long-term contract of Carlos Correa ahead of this year's trade deadline, they will need to find an answer at the top of their rotation. With the left-hander projected to land a massive deal on the open market, the Astros likely won't match any high-end offers that it would take to keep their ace. There was a report that revealed at least one MLB team has crossed the left-hander off their list of targets following the cross-up incident that took place between Valdez and Cesar Salazar, but based on his body of work, he should have plenty of suitors when he hits the open market.

8/29/25 Two-Homer Game Shows Astros Free Agent Splash Is Finding His Rhythm. The Houston Astros are in a tight race to win the American League West division, and they need every contribution they can possibly get up and down the roster to hold off the Seattle Mariners. A cold stretch in the first half of August saw the Astros' lead in the division shrink from 4.5 games on the day of the July 31 MLB trade deadline down to just a half-game on Aug. 15 as they swooned while the Mariners climbed. The top player for Houston in the important win was first baseman Christian Walker, the team's top offseason acquisition who was signed to a lucrative three-year, $60 million deal to add a right-handed power bat and steady presence at first base during this window of World Series contention.

7/23/25 Diamondbacks swept by Astros, late hit by Christian Walker. Christian Walker delivered the game-winning RBI single in the ninth inning against his former club on Wednesday, as the Houston Astros completed a three-game sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field, 4-3. The Diamondbacks came back from down 3-1 entering the eighth inning to tie the game, but an inning-ending double play with the bases loaded left too much meat on the bone. Back-to-back bunt singles to lead off the ninth inning — the Astros recorded five bunt singles during this series — set the table for Walker against Kevin Ginkel.

7/20/25 Astros rumors: Houston makes their top trade deadline need clear amid Yordan Alvarez injury. The Houston Astros are defying the odds and playing some good baseball this season, but it always ways to improve, and they know that. “The Astros are sitting in first place despite two members of their opening-day starting rotation undergoing Tommy John surgery, a third who hasn't pitched in a game since mid-April, their best player (Yordan Alvarez) hasn't played since May 2, and neither Christian Walker nor Yainer Diaz have an OPS above .690,” Nightengale wrote. Alvarez has been dealing with right hand inflammation, which has stopped him from getting on the field.
