Peyton Gray has made his big league debut at age 30 after an eight-year journey through the minors, independent and winter leagues. He pitched a perfect inning for the Texas Rangers to wrap up a 6-1 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday night. He ended the game with a strikeout of highly touted shortstop Konnor Griffin, playing the night before his 20th birthday. Gray was called up from Triple-A Round Rock earlier Thursday after left-handed reliever Robert Garcia was placed on the injured list. He was the fourth reliever used by the Rangers after two-time Cy Young Award winner Jacob deGrom struck out 10 in 5 2/3 innings.

Washington's James Wood homered on Ritchie's first pitch, but the 22-year-old right-hander rebounded to lead the Braves to a 7-2 victory over the Nationals. Ritchie, selected 35th in the 2022 amateur draft, allowed just one more run over seven innings, striking out seven and walking two. Braves manager Walt Weiss praised Ritchie's control and resilience. Ritchie started the season at Triple-A Gwinnett with a 0.99 ERA. The Braves will decide soon if he will make another big league start.
