SD12/23 11:04 PM Mason Miller (P-SD) [Last Word on Sports] - This Closer Trade Could Be a Game Changer for the Yankees. The talk of Mason Miller possibly being on the move is polluting the game’s current conversations. It’s hard to have that conversation without including the How would such a deal look in its entirety? This Closer Trade Could Be a Game Changer for the Yankees When speaking about the Yankees, there isn’t much to discuss this offseason. Acquisitions have been minimal and not very impactful. The Yankees announced the signings of Amed Rosario and. These two names may provide depth in reserve, but don’t exactly plug the central cavities in the roster. Aside from the offense, the Yankees’ Although the departure of Devin Williams and Luke Weaver isn’t detrimental, not filling their spots is. The core of the bullpen may be stable, but the back end is not. David Bednar is currently the on-paper closer for the Yankees, but we all know the caliber that the Yankees need to be successful. Miller would be an exceptional option and a very justifiable trade. His overall profile would be a massive addition to the Yankees’ pitching staff. A trade for Miller would be a huge splash in the pitcher market. What Miller Offers as a Reliever What you’d be getting in Miller is simple. A 27-year-old fireball closer with a three-pitch mix and a ton of shelf-life left is what the Bronx bombers could obtain. Miller is in the high percentile in most pitch profile categories. He offers big game on the mound and will be the highest caliber closer the Yankees would have employed since Aroldis Chapman. The closer throws a four-seam fastball up to, and gasses up on demand. Miller had a slider that’s his put-away option. The slider works up to 87.8 mph with a 37.4 put-away percentage. He also throws a changeup with almost a 10-mph differential from the fastball. The changeup is his least-used pitch. The right-hander threw 38 and 1 / 3 innings for the Athletics this past season. He was then moved to the San Diego Padres and threw 23 and 1 / 3 innings for them. Miller finished the year with a total of 22 saves. With more meaningful games and possible postseason play, he can see a lot more than 22 saves. The Reliever’s Contract and Control The current contract Miller is bonded to is one in which the Yankees would win. Miller is locked up and under control until 2029. That’s where he will test free agency. This means Miller will not be a rental but a hard-working arm looking to build free-agent stock. Pieces the Yankees Could Deal This is where the cost of doing business speaks loudly. The Yankees would need to consider parting ways with some high-value players in their organization. The first top-tier name that comes to mind is Jasson Dominguez. This is an outfield top prospect who was not included on the Yankees’ postseason roster. What does this mean? Dominguez may not be much of a guy that the club is prioritizing. Other high-caliber names could include one or two of the top prospects: Spencer Jones, George Lombard Jr., and Brock Selvidge. In addition, Will Warren could be on that list, as he’s an MLB operative. A deal such as this can be a huge offload from New York to the Athletics organization. This would be worth it for Miller to be in the Yankees bullpen. Main Photo Credits: Matt Marton-Imagn Images The post appeared first on .

Ath12/23 7:43 PM Jacob Wilson (SS-Ath) [NBC Sports Bay Area] - Why Jeff McNeil is eager to join Athletics' ‘great' young core after trade. It’s always good to have another adult in the room with a bunch of kids. The in a trade with the New York Mets on Monday. The 33-year-old utility player is expected to fill into the hole at second base, a big need for the A’s heading into the offseason. McNeil, who has played all eight of his MLB seasons with the Mets, is excited to join a promising young core. “It’s a super fun team to watch,” McNeil said Tuesday to reporters over a Zoom call (). “I watched quite a bit of their games [from] New York. … Just a super fun, young team. They have a great young core. I just want to do my part to help them out. I’m super excited to be a part of it. I think we’re going to have a good squad.” The eight-year MLB veteran joins an infield that already boasts at first base and runner-up Jacob Wilson at shortstop. The A’s had six different players make starts at second base in 2025. Having an established veteran to slot in at the position without much thought will make life easier for manager Mark Kotsay. “I feel like our middle infield this year is probably going to strike out the least amount in the league with Wilson,” McNeil noted. “He’s a free swinger. I love watching that guy hit. He’s so much fun. We’re both free swingers and like to put the ball in play quick and make things happen… I can’t wait to play with him.” McNeil, as of now, has the most MLB service among A’s position players, and the second-most on the overall roster behind starting pitcher Luis Severino’s 10 years. That helps the A’s front office meet an intangible need on top of their positional gaps. “I thought he was a really good fit in a lot of ways,” A’s general manager David Forst . “His overall experience — let’s be honest, we still have a generally young roster without a ton of experience, particularly on the position-player side. I think he brings a lot to the table in terms of having played in that market, played in the postseason, and bringing a lot of experience to our clubhouse.” The addition of the two-time MLB All-Star also will help boost an already potent lineup that came into form particularly in the latter half of the season. The A’s offense hit for a .260 batting average in their 64 games after the break, the fifth-best in MLB during that span. McNeil, a Central Coast native, returns to his home state. He also has family ties near his new home ballpark, according to Gallegos. Jeff McNeil on getting traded to A's: "It seems like [the Mets] are going in a different direction, so I knew it was a possibility. I'm super excited to be an A now. Definitely a crazy day yesterday, but I couldn't be happier." McNeil is from SLO and has family in Sacramento. — Martín Gallegos (@MartinJGallegos) With the second base position seemingly locked down in Sacramento, Forst told Gallegos that the team likely will look at internal candidates at third base. Young prospects Max Muncy and Darell Hernáiz started 30 and 17 games, respectively, at the position and figure to be the leading candidates along with Brett Harris. Forst and the A’s now probably will their offseason focus on acquiring another piece for the starting pitching rotation.
