8/27/25 Reese Kaplan -- Moving the Pitching Pieces on Mets Chessboard. It is the last few days of August and the Mets seem like they will have some difficult roster decisions ahead of them. The recent exits of Frankie Montas and Paul Blackburn opened up some new possibilities and not a single person here is questioning the decision to promote Nolan McLean to the big club to fill one of those vacancies. Next came the exit of Reed Garrett due to injury as well and here's where the roster layout can become interesting. Seemingly ready to return is veteran starter/reliever Tyler Megill who has been truly outstanding in his rehab assignments in particular when it comes to striking people out.

8/23/25 Frankie Montas' elbow injury leads to Mets IL move. The 2025 season has been a series of brief highs followed by extended lows for the New York Mets. There's plenty of blame to go around for New York's issues this season. The veteran starter was demoted from the rotation to the bullpen amid a disastrous slump in his debut season with the Mets. After two relief appearances, Montas has landed on the injured list.

8/18/25 Insider suggests David Stearns 'kicking himself' over Mets trade deadline mistake. On August 12, SNY MLB insider Andy Martino made a fascinating X post that came in the wake of the New York Mets announcing that pitcher Frankie Montas would be getting moved to the bullpen after struggling as a starter, and that top prospects Brandon Sproat and Nolan McLean are "possibilities" to take Montas' spot in the rotation. It was really interesting to hear that the Mets' top pitching prospects being on the cusp of getting called up kept David Stearns and the rest of the front office from acquiring another starting arm.

8/13/25 New York Mets should make another rotation change. The New York Mets got a much-needed win yesterday after making a big roster move prior to the game by shifting starting pitcher Frankie Montas to the bullpen. While the decision to move Montas to the bullpen felt long overdue after a string of rough starts, it may not be the final move the Mets need to make to bolster their rotation down the stretch. Tuesday's 13-5 victory came in spite of another poor performance from Clay Holmes, who lasted just 3.2 innings and allowed five runs on six hits while walking four batters.
