8/21/25 Mets Notbebook: Jeff McNeil out vs. Nationals with sore shoulder. Facing a tough left-hander in the series finale against the Washington Nationals, the Mets are without one of their best weapons against lefties, Jeff McNeil. The super utility infielder/outfielder was out of the lineup Thursday with shoulder soreness. McNeil has been battling a sore right shoulder for about a week now, which led to the Mets using him as a DH twice last weekend against the Seattle Mariners. The issue isn't believed to be serious, and McNeil has been managing it with treatment.

8/06/25 Mets' bats silent: Hitless innings streak surges to concerning levels. The Mets' bats have fallen silent. New York has not recorded a hit through five innings against the Cleveland Guardians on Wednesday, extending their hitless streak to 10 innings ... and counting. The last time they recorded a hit, a lead-off single by second baseman Jeff McNeil, was in the fourth inning on Tuesday. Since then, they've recorded 33 outs, the equivalent of 11 innings, since their last base hit.

7/24/25 Breaking down 6 potential Mets' trade deadline targets. In one of his once-a-homestand talk with reporters this week, Stearns wasn't shy about identifying two areas he'd like to see upgraded: the bullpen and center field. The bullpen is priority No. 1 for the Mets, who have lost five arms, four relievers, to season-ending surgery. Center field is not an area the team will be eager to improve, thanks to Jeff McNeil, who's transitioned into the position quite well.

7/23/25 Ex-GM reveals Yankees breakout star could be Mets trade target. The New York Mets have an interesting decision to make when it comes to addressing their offensive struggles in center field before the July 31 trade deadline. As it currently stands, the team could either stick with the tandem of Jeff McNeil and Tyrone Taylor in center field, make a move for a player who'd be likely an offensive upgrade, but wouldn't be anything overly remarkable, or New York's front office could decide to make a major splash and trade for a truly game-changing presence in the lineup. Of course, many Mets fans would prefer that third scenario, despite the top prospects it would require parting ways with. While David Stearns going in this direction doesn't seem likely, he could have a surprise in store.

Try it free On Monday, David Stearns suggested that the need for center field help had been somewhat diminished because of Jeff McNeil's growing comfort at the spot. On Tuesday, for just the second time this season, McNeil was penciled in as the Mets center fielder for a second straight day. The club says that their confidence is growing in the longtime infielder in center, but cautioned that he probably will not grow into an everyday option at the demanding position. 7/10/25 Mets-Twins trade idea would bring All-Star infielder to Queens. The New York Mets could be in the market for some second base help at the trade deadline. With Luisangel Acuña back in the minor leagues, Jeff McNeil has seen a lot of time at second base. While McNeil is a fine second baseman, the team may need his bat in the outfield. Tyrone Taylor has not been great offensively, carrying just a .570 OPS, and McNeil has started to see some time in his place as well.

7/07/25 Jeff McNeil's major adjustment boosting Mets' offense. New York Mets utility man Jeff McNeil is never going to lead the league in exit velocity or home runs. Instead, in his age-33 season, McNeil is redefining himself and saving his career. On Friday, McNeil pushed the Mets past the New York Yankees with a seventh-inning two-run homer. "I feel like I don't hit that many home runs in that situation,” McNeil told reporters after the game.

7/05/25 Jeff McNeil gets brutally honest on playing with Juan Soto. On Friday, it was Soto who brought out the July 4 fireworks in the Mets' comeback victory over the New York Yankees, 6-5. Afteward, his teammate and second baseman Jeff McNeil paid him the highest compliment, per Jorge Castillo of ESPN. “That was awesome,” McNeil said. McNeil had a breakthrough moment in the game.

7/05/25 McNeil's home run and sparkling defensive play carry Mets past Yankees in Subway Series. Jeff McNeil, arms clasped behind his back, tossed his bat and shouted toward the New York Mets dugout, starting up the first base line as his go-ahead, two-run homer in the seventh inning off Luke Weaver sailed into the second deck at Citi Field. Twenty-five minutes later, the second baseman sprinted a half-dozen steps to his left, sprawled onto the outfield grass and with an outstretched glove angled toward the right-field corner snagged DJ LeMahieu's one-hopper. McNeil popped to his feet and threw to first for the second out of the ninth. “The homer was sick,” McNeil said after the Mets overcame a pair of two-run deficits to beat the New York Yankees 6-5 on Friday in the opener of this season's second Subway Series.

6/28/25 Jeff McNeil emerging as potential answer in center field. As the 2025 season has officially reached the halfway point, the New York Mets have relied on their depth to narrowly lead the Philadelphia Phillies in the NL East. While there have been challenges trying to get all the position players consistent playing time, there have also been emergences, as seen with Jeff McNeil in center field recently. McNeil, 33, has primarily been known as a second baseman, but his versatility has always been an underrated, defining, and beneficial aspect of his game. From quality reads and even a recent home run robbery, McNeil has looked relatively comfortable in center.

Sanchez Published June 27, 2025, 7:50 a.m. ET Jeff McNeil looks to the Mets dugout after an RBI hit in a win over the Braves at Citi Field on June 26, 2025. Charles Wenzelberg/NY Post It was back in April, when the best player in the National League was Pete Alonso, when Luisangel Acuña looked like a .300 hitter, when questions persisted about a slow-starting Juan Soto and when the Mets' pitching was the envy of baseball. “We're not even close to hitting on all cylinders,” co-hitting coach Eric Chavez said then about his offense. “Right now we're still kind of feeling through some things to get to where

Getty Images The Mets' malaise, which reached 10 losses in 11 games with Tuesday night's latest setback against Atlanta , is well past the point of waving off as a bad week or series. Doom was in the air even as the Mets took a 3-0 lead at a sweltering Citi Field behind the returning Frankie Montas . Then the bats went cold and the bullpen imploded during a five-run sixth inning for the Braves. As The Post's Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman have both covered with depth and expertise,
