5/05/25 What Philip Rivers sees in Colts' rookie QB Riley Leonard: 'He's going to end up being an asset to the whole quarterback room'. Riley Leonard arrived at Notre Dame last spring still recovering from an ankle injury that prematurely ended his time at Duke. The space was in a notable setting: Philip Rivers' backyard. Leonard is a native of Fairhope, Ala., and his parents live about five minutes away from Rivers, the should-be future Hall of Fame quarterback who's now the head coach at St. Michael Catholic High School in Fairhope.

4/19/25 For Patriots, history says taking an offensive lineman at No. 4 in NFL Draft has been a safe selection. The Chargers didn't have Philip Rivers in mind when they were picking first in 2004. When Manning said he wasn't going to go to San Diego, the Chargers had no choice but to select Manning, then trade him to the Giants for their No. 4 pick, Rivers. Bengals coach Marty Schottenheimer was honest.

4/06/25 Aaron Rodgers, other QBs joke about Philip Rivers' iconic throwing motion. Philip Rivers is one of the greatest Los Angeles Chargers of all time. Being apart of the infamous 2004 NFL Draft trade that swapped Eli Manning to the New York Giants, Rivers took on the challenge of becoming the face of the Chargers and ran with it. The eight-time Pro Bowler unfortunately couldn't help get the Chargers their first Super Bowl, but was apart of some amazing teams in the 2000s that Bolts fans will remember forever. One thing that will always be etched in the minds of Chargers fans is Rivers' throwing motion, which was certainly different than most.

4/05/25 Los Angeles Chargers legends share hilarious Philip Rivers story. During his era, it would be hard to find someone who played the game harder than former Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers. Rivers was known for his fiery attitude, but he had the talent to back it up. The Chargers' offense was always known as one of the more deadly units under Rivers. One of Rivers' favorite targets, Antonio Gates, is finally getting his well-deserved moment, as he has been selected for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2025.

3/12/25 Chargers reunite with free agent wide receiver Mike Williams. Wide receiver Mike Williams spent the first seven seasons of his NFL career with the Chargers, forming strong connections first with Philip Rivers and later with Justin Herbert before he was jettisoned in a cost-saving move by the salary cap-strapped team roughly one year ago. Williams and the Chargers were reunited Wednesday, when he and the team agreed on a one-season contract reportedly worth up to $6 million. Fox Sports was the first to report the deal, a move that bolsters the Chargers' wide receiver corps and gives Herbert another experienced and reliable target.

2/07/25 Eli Manning congratulates Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2025. The two-time Super Bowl MVP spent it with old high school friends, college buddies, former NFL teammates, and of course, his family. "Hey, I think I deserve some credit," Manning said of his message to Allen, who recorded three of his 136 career sacks on him. Meanwhile, Manning could have been teammates with Gates. The San Diego Chargers signed the undrafted college basketball player the year before the famous draft-day trade of Manning for Philip Rivers.

1/18/25 Chargers legend Philip Rivers hit with rough take on HOF candidacy. Los Angeles Chargers legend Philip Rivers becomes eligibility to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2026, but how strong is the quarterback's case? Rivers definitely had a prolific NFL career, as he retired top five in NFL history in both passing yards and passing touchdowns upon retiring after the 2020 campaign.

1/17/25 Philip Rivers' son receives first offer from SEC school. The face of the Los Angeles Chargers for the last twenty years has been former quarterback Phillip Rivers. Rivers spent 16 years with the Chargers, earning eight Pro Bowl selections, as well as AP Comeback Player of the Year in 2013. Now, Rivers' journey looks a little different. This time, the Chargers legend is watching his own son, Gunner, carve out his own path.

9/23/24 Los Angeles Chargers: Much-maligned WR continues his impressive start. The Los Angeles Chargers are not going to be a team that airs it out on offense. Gone are the days of 'Air Coryell', Philip Rivers slinging it around, or even the way Justin Herbert started his career. For that reason, the team did not seem to be incredibly concerned about the wide receiver position this offseason, even though everyone else was. The Chargers have D.J. Chark on injured reserve and Joshua Palmer was out for the Week 3 game with injury.

8/04/24 Public enemy No. 1 for Los Angeles Chargers could go to Hall of Fame on first ballot. When the 2025 Hall of Fame class is enshrined in Canton, it could easily be a bittersweet day for fans of the Los Angeles Chargers. Manning was of course drafted with the No. 1 overall pick by the Chargers in 2004 but after refusing to play for the team, he was traded to the New York Giants. It all ended up for the best as the Chargers netted Philip Rivers in that deal, but Manning's refusal to play for the Chargers, a decision he's never really fully explained, keeps him on the bad side of most Chargers fans to this day.

8/11/23 49ers' Kyle Shanahan says Philip Rivers was 'prepared' to play in Super Bowl if needed following QB injuries. San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan was ready to call on former NFL quarterback Philip Rivers if the Niners had advanced to the Super Bowl this past season after seeing four healthy quarterbacks get injured through the NFC title game. Shanahan told reporters on Thursday that he had previously had discussion with Rivers, who last played in the league in 2020, about his contingency plan early on in the season – likely after Trey Lance suffered a season-ending injury the second game of the season.

8/10/23 Kyle Shanahan: 49ers would have signed Philip Rivers for Super Bowl 57 amid QB injuries. The 49ers in 2022 were one win away from turning to the high school ranks to address their quarterback injury bug. Or posting a job ad. Philip Rivers' cleats appeared to be hung firmly on the wall, but a Super Bowl appearance would've been more than enough to rip them off the wall. The eight-time Pro Bowler turned-head coach of St. Michael Catholic High School (Fairhope, Ala.) was ready to accept a new position: 49ers' starting quarterback in Super Bowl 57. MORE: NFL power rankings: Jets, Lions, Ravens hype is real San Francisco coach Kyle Shanahan initially revealed in a July 25 podcast with The Athletic's Tim Kawakami that Rivers would have signed with the 49ers had they made Super Bowl 57.
