Adam Vinatieri was an integral part of the beginning of the New England Patriots' dynasty when he kicked the game-winning field goal in the AFC Championship Game en route to a Super Bowl XXXVI victory. Despite all of the success he had in New England, he departed the organization for the Indianapolis Colts at the height of the rivalry between the two teams. Vinatieri wanted a long-term contract, and got that from the Colts after the Patriots didn't use the franchise tag on him. While the departure stung for Vinatieri — who was named a finalist for the Patriots Hall of Fame — he holds no ill-will against team owner Robert Kraft and has moved on from the situation. During the 2025 NFL Honors, the members of the 2025 class of the Pro Football Hall of Fame were announced, but in his first year on the ballot, former New England Patriots kicker Adam Vinatieri wasn't selected. Leading the way are first-time nominees Adam Vinatieri and Aqib Talib. Vinatieri joined the Patriots in 1995 and went on to win three titles, kicking Super-Bowl-winning field goals in two of them before spending the final 14 seasons of his career with the Colts. Bueller? It seems like an issue that hadn't been an issue until the final season or so of Adam Vinatieri has all of a sudden been an issue the last several seasons. It looked like the Colts corrected their kicking concerns with the signing of Matt Gay last off-season but not only was he a bit shaky in preseason but he is now injured.
